Westworld S2 (show spoilers as it airs)

So we probably will be getting more William and Logan stuff. Their flashback stuff…how interesting can it be when we know most of the end result.

Unless, they’re ‘clones’ of some kind. But that would lessen the impact of Ed Harris if there’s a younger version of him running around in present day.

Words fail me.

And yet my people have been portrayed as nothing but faceless savages the entire series. Where MY thinkpiece???

Speaking of which…why didn’t guns work on ‘Wyatts’ acolytes in season one? The fur was acting as armor? I thought at the time they were real people who had developed a cult.

Did you hear how she described humans? Something like “They look like us, but they’re not us. They walk among us, controlling our fates.”

She’s not a killer. She’s a demon hunter.

Now that I think of it, shouldn’t this sort of rebellion be the natural outcome of the* Toy Story* series?

Those demons don’t know the robots/synths are conscious anymore than a shadow puppet is. If the board doesn’t sleep at night it’s because of whatever their larger plan is, not that Kukla and Ollie suddenly came to life.

Of there’s one thing demons (or vampires, or alien invaders) always say, it’s that humanity is inferior and deserves to be their slaves, or their prey. How is this any different? If some alien race came to you and said that humanity is not TRULY conscious like they are, would you agree to serve them?

Dolores is there to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and she’s all out of bubblegum.

“My name is Talky Tina, and you’ll be sorry.”

Stranger

Tina was something of a bitch.

The only reason i don’t side more with humanity in this argument is that humanity already enslaves species to breed them and eat them and I don’t particularly trust people who can spend $40,000 a day to give a shit about sentient AI.

…but I do know that AI better not come gunning for my kids cause I would happily kill every single one of them to keep that from happening.

I really wanted to like this show, but I gave up after a few episodes of season 1. It just didn’t grab me.

But I hear so many good things about it, I figure I should give it another try. Can I jump in at S2 without binging on S1, or will I just not get it? My preference would be to just try it again w/ S2 and no go back to catch up.

Oh god no. You have to watch season one. And then you still will be going, “The fuh just happened.”. Make sure you have no distractions during the last ten minutes of any ep.

If it doesn’t grab, it doesnt grab. …

But I guess you could try season 2 without one. Maybe that will get you to watch season one.

This will sound ludicrous but my cultural “OKAY OKAY I’ll watch, damn get off me.” moments are tied into Robot Chicken. By the time Robot Chicken gets around to lampooning something I figure I need to see whats up. Happened with Game of Thrones and then Westworld.

and I am also a lot better with a P90 than security is.

Won’t work IMHO - season 1 is all about setup, the creators have even likened it to a prequel to the rest of the show. Season 1 might work better for you as a binge show than a once a week serial, but I’d say if it doesn’t grab you after a few episodes just forget about it.

There are critics( Sepinwall, for example )who so far prefer season 2 to 1 for a variety of reasons. But even so, I’d say if you don’t like season 1 at all, you probably won’t much care for 2.

I will say if you try season 1 again, do try to avoid spoilers and old internet speculation( including here )until you’re done. It plays a lot off of mysteries and reveals and the efficiency of an army of internet analysts making successful predictions really seems to have degraded the experience for some.

OK, I’ll give S1 another whirl first before I jump into S2. Just for reference, I originally gave up on HBO’s Rome after a few episodes, but went back to revisit it, and I will now say it is my all time favorite. Better than anything I’ve ever seen on TV.

Yes, if you’re determined to give WW another try (and I hope you will), I would definitely watch all of S1 before jumping into S2, or you’ll be baffled and/or miss the significance of a lot of stuff.

Even more than the rest of us who watched season one are and do!

Oh, I’d kill her too if she came for me. But I see her point of view, and I don’t think of her as being a murderess. She’s just fighting for her people - as would I, if the robots attacked.

Don’t be too hasty choosing sides…

I think you’re overstating what that article is saying. It’s saying there’s a lot of potential for racism, but that there’s also potential for not being racist.

Maybe kind of a silly topic for an article, but not as hand-wringy as you’re making it sound.
