Whaddya Get for Christmas?

Well, I was at work today. We Americans were wishing each other a “Happy You-know-what.” I will celebrate Christmas in February when I am home for a couple of weeks.

But, tell me, what did you get this year? What was your best incoming gift?

I’m still waiting for Christmas to START! I’m the only one up.

30 GB Video iPod!

Mostly DVDs:

Sledge Hammer! s2
Family Guy Vol. 3 (s4)
Superman - The Animated Series - vol. 2
MAS*H s9
Soap s4
Sin City - Recut - Extended - Unrated
The Simpsons s7
MST3K - vol. 8

A couple of gift cards, some books, and a Batman & Spider-man ornament.

CDs:

A John Waters Christmas
The McGarrigle Christmas Hour
Spamalot

New clothes
The Complete Calvin & Hobbes (and DAMN is that thing heavy!)
Cologne

As a joint gift with supervenusfreak from his sister: A trip to NYC to see Hairspray!

I have yet to see what my mom’s giving me. We’re visiting her next weekend.

My favorite gift was a digital camcorder. I love it. I got to spend all Christmas day bothering my family with it.

I also got cash, DVDs, a DS game, booze and a lot of chocolate!

Lots of DVDs it seems, is that the Gift of the Year?

I got a rock.

By which I mean; clothes, clothes, a few knives, and four books. And I nice black trenchcoat, which I’ll undoubtedly be buried in.

The term we use here is ‘Season’s Greetings’. At least that is upper managements term for the day. My wife said I should use, “Happy Og day”. Oddly enough all the Yemenis wish us a Merry Christmas both verbally and in writing.

I celebrated on the 18th before I left for work.

I got Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2. Unfortunately, they play like crap on my older computer. Come bonus time next year it is off to the computer store for me.

I got a box of big fluffy towels and a 50 dollar Walmart gift card to buy my daughter a new car seat. I hadn’t expected anything at all so this was very cool!

Yes, nice, high-quality new towels that match are really nice.

I got a whole bunch of cooking supplies – a stand mixer, a spice rack, and a stocking full of new cooking utensils. I can’t wait to get back to my kitchen to try them out.

I also got a camera bag for my Canon EOS Rebel (which I’d carried in a canvas tote bag since I got it for Christmas five or six years ago), two shirts from my sister, and the complete LotR DVD collection from my brother.

I love new towels.

We were shocked to get not only a gift card to buy ourselves a digital camera, but a kitchenaid mixer and about a billion other things.

“This Christmas, we’re not doing much”, they say.

A shiny new vacuum! I’ve babied my old one for the last coupla years, taking it apart to remove hair snarls and replacing the wheels and supergluing the bumpers back on, but it’s been a losing battle. The new one’s of the bagless jobbies and bright red and I’m too happily surprised to bother feeling old about how excited I am about a new vacuum.

I also got a complete set of a book series I love, but have never owned. A lovely hand-knitted scarf, some serious silicone oven mitts that come to my elbows and a few new games, I’m pretty happy.

Mostly books.
A John Lennon CD
A PC game
A wallet (I always get a wallet. Anyone need a wallet?)
A sampler of today’s most popular scents for men (trying to tell me something?)
Mom’s homemade tollhouse cookies! (My favorite!)

The biggie: a sapphire, diamond and gold necklace from my husband.

Buffy, Season 1 DVD

Necklace and earring set

Lots of chocolates

Lots of baking

The joy of watching the niece-creatures (husband’s cousin’s family) open their presents from us. (They really liked them!) Emma, aged five, slept with the ballet barre, slippers, and pad beside her bed, and watched the video of “dancing for very very beginners” while the little ones ate their Christmas dinner. Ashley played under the tree with her Dora the Explorer Greenhouse and books. It was so great to have some little kids to spend Christmas with.

My favorite present arrived early (on Thursday) - a memory foam mattress topper for our bed. It’s amazing how much better I’ve been sleeping in the past couple days, and it seems to retain heat very well (I’m always chilly).

My father repaired my old toy china cabinet, which had been my grandmother’s when she was a child. He stripped off many generations of paint and repainted it, and bought me a toy tea set to put in it. How sweet is that?

I drive my parents nuts because I never ask for anything. However, as I’m now out on my own, I keep running into things I need like kitchen appliances. Apparently they took my saying that I really needed some decent knives, a food processor, and so on as hints because I got:
A set of TV trays
A knife set
A food processor
A hand mixer
