Whaddya mean, it's December in the MMP?!?

Morning, mumpers! It’s 4c/39f with a predicted high of 6c/ 43f, and partly cloudy. It’s always partly cloudy! Weather app says “I’d love to tell you the sun will come out tomorrow, but I can’t. I’m not a fucking miracle worker!”

gotti welcome home! Good to see you again, and good to know you are both surviving. Hope the new job is good too.

sari it’s tough being caught up in inheritance woes, I am grateful that my mum’s estate was relatively easy but that still didn’t stop my brother trying to claim stuff that he was not entitled to.

shoe you have a good list of things to be grateful for, and we are grateful to have you!

Moooom* sorry to hear about the truck costs, and the BIL saga but good to know he is getting neuro help as well.

Boo sorry to hear about the tree defeating you for the day, just remind it that winning one battle doesn’t mean the war is over!

Yankers hope you are ok today, sometimes takes a while for those bruises to come out.

We are packing up to go home this morning, the drive should be about 5-6hrs, depending on traffic and how many stops we have. I will be glad to get home and see the cats, we have been very worried about Ophelia all week. I know there is some cleaning up to do when we get back!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I woke to the call of nature and decided I did not want to go back to bed. I promise to make up with nappage later in the day. 'Tis 64 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted to begin in a couple of hours and hang on through the afternoon. We shall see. Since we took care of stuff yestiddy, there is no need to leave da cave. Inside and dry sounds like a good plan to me! Sup shall be shrimpies 'n grits with peas 'n carrots as the vegetative matter.

Boo show that tree who’s boss today!

BooFae I am usre you are well on the road by now, but safe trip back. Hope Ohpelia is doin’ good.

Yanker hope you’re not to beat up and bruised today.

MOOOOOOM good that BIL is seein’ a neurologist sooner than later. Also, does not matter if it’s an elementary, middle school, or high school, they are all germ factories. Hope you don’t get the crud.

Nellie who knows. A dawg has got to dawg.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning, Mumpers.

It’s a little cool out there, this morning. We are clear, and have a temp. of 28F, and a wind chill of 14F. It’ll get warmer, though. Up to nearly 50F. Not bad, I guess. I like it more than the heat and humidity of summer!

Last night, the power was flickering. Lots of wind, and some heavy rain. We didn’t have an outage, so, there’s that.

Today, again, depending on my mood, I may/may not make those stupid cookies. I failed to make them, yesterday. So, here we are. I also failed to fold laundry. It’s at least all washed, and dried. If anyone complains, I’ll throat punch 'em. People need to start being content with what they’ve got, you know?! Ugh.

My daughter has an appt. for her physical therapy, today. I don’t have any appointments until Dec. 14th. That’s when I have to go back to my doctor, and give them my Dexcom upload, for my past month of blood glucose numbers. I’ve been trying to be good, and eating much better. I do have issues with salad dressing. I use WAY more than I should. I should start dunking my forkful of salad, instead of dumping dressing on top. That’d be the smart thing. But, again, here we are. ~Deep sigh~
I’m also having issues with pork rinds. I love those stupid things. I’m hoping that I have lost a little bit of weight by the time I go in on the 14th. But, if I don’t lay off those stupid pork rinds, that’s not going to happen. Always something.

Sorry to bitch & moan. But, I’m a lonely, bored, very cranky, old woman. :smiling_imp:

Have a good day!

This reminded me of what my daughter posted yesterday:

“This is why I never get any laundry done”
Imgur
I don’t suppose that excuse works for you…

Speaking of laundry, FCD brought home BIL’s bedspread. The washer and dryer in the apartment are small - too small for a queen size spread, so I’ll run it in our machine today. Mine can handle a king comforter - I deliberately bought a big 'un! So I have that to look forward to.

And I’ll be bringing Roxy home with me after school, then I’ll feed them all - I pulled a meatloaf out of the freezer. Daughter has another parent conference and with the sun setting before 5, I end up driving home in darker-than-I-like conditions. This way, I avoid that drive and she gets dinner - win-win!

FCD got a call from his mom last night and headed down there around 11. FIL was agitated - taking drawers out and emptying them and MIL couldn’t cope. All I know is my poor, exhausted sweetie didn’t get home till around 3. He’s sleeping now, and I hope he stays down for a few more hours. It’s raining so no bright sun shining into the bedroom, and it’s cool, which he likes.

He’s got an appt next Tues at the VA home near us to see if his folks can get in there. The apartment just isn’t working out. It would have been fine if not for the dementia. Fingers crossed.

Speaking of fingers, mine is getting better. It’s still mostly kinda numb, but I’m able to put some pressure on the cut, and it doesn’t send stabbing pain thru my hand. I know it’ll take a while for it got achieve its new normal, but this is encouraging. Do nerves repair themselves? Might I get most of the feeling back? I guess we’ll see.

Meanwhile, I need to fire up a fire in the basement. I’ve taken just about all the toys down there. I do need to replenish the diaper supply and take down some snacks - graham crackers, I think. Plus Aunt B sent several bags of balloons for the kids - I’ll blow a few up and toss them around. I’m so glad we turned that area into nice living space! It’s perfect for the kids.

And so it begins - cool and soggy, but at least it’s not icy or snowy yet… yet…

Happy Wednesday!!

Nerves in the periphery can repair themselves, but it depends on the extent of the injury (or surgery).

Aw, hellz no. If I am ever a retired drain on society, I reserve the right to say, “Screw this, imma go back to bed.”

Morning all. The newspaper person delivered not only today’s paper but the ones I missed, so I have plenty of newsprint to catch up on. Didn’t particularly want the older ones, but hey, they all end up in the recycle bin in the end. Only in the mid-50’sF today, but the rain has left to visit all our East Coast MMP’ers, so all y’all stay dry now.

FCM, feel for you, both for in-laws and hurt finger. We tried to have my dad live in a elders apartment setting but he couldn’t handle it (he had dementia, too, and Mom had passed) and he had to go to a care home. Not a pleasant time for FCD, but at least they are getting the proper care instead of being 900 miles away.

ace, heck with the laundry, do the cookies!!   And it’s cheese balls that are my downfall, I have been pretty good about not buying them but it’s tough walking by the store display…

boo fae, hope the trip home is safe and short. Best wishes to Ophelia.

nellie, dog is going to do dog things; just keep the blankets where he can get them.

BBBoo, good luck with round 2 with the tree decoration.

shoe, good or bad, know that we are here for you (but glad it’s good). Take care now.

OK, need to internet some and then go through the papers and watch World Cup soccer, then off to the gym–that should take care of the morning at least. All y’all have a good Hump Day.

It’s 23 degrees F with 20 mph winds and a wind chill of 8. I’m happy to stay home today. As usual, the sinus infections and meds are screwing up my sleep schedule. I took a 2 hour nap yesterday and when I woke up I thought it was morning. I didn’t fall asleep til midnight after I had 6 slices of cinnamon sugar toast, courtesy of the prednisone which gives me the munchies.

Boo your tree will be fine with non original lights. I love to sit with all the lights off except the tree. shoe I’m glad you are finding things to be thankful for. Never underestimate a steady paycheck, food, and friends.

Having been without one or the other - and during really dark days, without all three - I know truly how to value the simple things.

Having just had a toaster strudel, imma go back to bed, and be grateful to stretch out and sleep. (Hopefully.)

The latest snow dump has moved on; onward to bone-chilling. I have to say that they know how to do snow cleanup here in Big Minnie. People actually shovel their walks, unlike in Anchorage where there are huge berms by winter’s end. And the plows were out in force, as well. Must have been a major pile-up on I-94E though, as the ramps were clogged for at least an hour with nothing moving. Sure glad I don’t work anymore. We celebrated being home and warm with some turkey & wild rice soup and some fresh biscuits.

We got home from vacation yesterday a bit after four in the afternoon.

Day 1 [Monday, 11/21]: We drove down to Whidbey Island and caught the ferry to Port Townsend. Then we headed around the Olympic Peninsula for the pretty drive. We stopped in Ocean Shores ands stayed the night at the Quinault Casino.

Day 2: Portland is on the ‘Do Not Go There Unless You Have To List’, so we took the bridge over the Columbia River to Astoria (Mrs. L.A. ‘made’ me drive because she doesn’t like to drive on that bridge), and took the 101 down the coast for some pretty scenery and some driving rain and gale-force winds. We cut over to Eugene south of Coos Bay, then took the 5 to Anderson, CA to RON.

Day 3: Down to Orange, CA to see my 96-year-old aunt and a cousin. I didn’t know the address, but I knew the intersection. Unfortunately I used Magnolia Avenue instead of Magnolia street, and Waze took us to Garden Grove. I called my cousin, and we got to the house for a nice visit. Note to self: If you (generally) know the way, don’t use an electronic navigator. Up to Anaheim to RON at a hotel near Disneyland.

Day 4: I ignored Waze for the drive up to the Antelope Valley. We visited Wifey’s relatives in Mojave and then took off for Las Vegas. In accordance with tradition (well, my tradition anyway) we stopped for gyros at The Mad Greek in Baker. We stayed at the Boulder Station Hotel and Casino in North Las Vegas. That was a disappointing stay. I posted my Yelp review in this post.

Days 5 & 6: Cortez, Colorado; our destination! The Days Inn was perfectly positioned to serve as our base for our excursions out to Mesa Verde National Park. Tours closed in October, but we were able to see the cliff dwellings from afar. I’d forgotten my hiking stick, so I bought one in Cortez. I wanted to hike a couple more trails, but The Missus was worn out after a hike at 8,000 feet and we decided to head home early.

Day 7: We were concerned about snow in the passes, so I planned a route from Salt Lake City to [ugh] Portland. Checking conditions the next morning, the Snohomish Pass looked passable. Man, I loved seeing the 80 mph speed limits! We were so enthralled by the scenery between Cortez and SLC that we went over 20 miles past a turn. But hey, we’re on vacation. We ran into heavy, almost blinding, snow in Salt Lake City that put some heavy ice on the front license plate and the front of the car. I eventually pried it off somewhere in Washington. The windshield washer stopped working, which was a pain because we couldn’t see when the semis threw up their spray. Me hit more blinding snow, this time with gale-force winds, around Mountain Home AFB. We stopped in Baker City, OR. Conditions between there and Pendleton were nasty. We lucked out and found a hotel room where someone had cancelled.

Day 8: It was a slow drive to Pendleton. Ice and snow and slow trucks and now windshield washers. Once we were past all of that, the drive was good until we got to the Snohomish Pass, I think he RAV4 has AWD/4WD, but it doesn’t work like it does in the Jeep. I think it might be automatic or something. I would have felt better if I knew how it worked. Chains were not required, but traction tires were ‘advised’. Later there was a sign that said ‘traction tires required’. Too late. We were already at least halfway through. There was a bad crash on the downhill side involving a semi. The trailer was upright, but the tractor was on its side. It hadn’t happened very long before we got to the site, as the backup was short and the WSP were just arriving. Once through the pass, we took the 405 to the 5, and we got home about a quarter past four. We were surprised at the snow. We hadn’t expected any on the final leg. The roads were snowy and icy when we got off of the freeway. This morning, it’s mostly all melted.

Today we’re picking up the kitties from Cat Country Resort. I just need to shower and shave. And I’m off work for the rest of the week.

Good vacation. We saw the cliff dwellings and there was all sorts of pretty scenery.

Happy Hump Day!

It’s 50 degrees and rainy.

My son got off irk at 3am. I told him, get your damn license, I can’t keep doing this.
I went back to bed and didn’t get up until after 7, and I sure didn’t want to get up.
I didn’t sleep well, I kept waking up cold. The first time I thought oh shit, not again. I could feel the air from the vent so I knew it wasn’t the furnace.
I hope I’m not getting sick.

We took Cerby and Echo to daycare.
I dropped off my son and Ripple at the house and went for the oil change.
Ripple just pissed me off, he wouldn’t go with my son and I had to get out of the truck and walk part of the way to the house, in the pouring rain, to get him to go inside.

He was so excited when I came home. Ripple is not an excitable dog, but he was jumping up on me and wiggling and wagging. Not his usual behavior.
My son thinks his sore looks worse today, I think it’s looking better.

Now I have to get ready to go to physical therapy.
I don’t want to go back out into the rain and chill.

The nursing corps made their monthly visit to our district today, and I got a COVID/RSV/Flu test. Should get the results via email by this afternoon. I’ve been feeling ratty for over a week. I passed a COVID test last Wednesday, and I had a flu shot a month ago. I’m wondering about this RSV thing.

My organization is going to rob me of about $1500.

Each year they give out what they call ‘merit rewards’. These are the same for all eligible staff and are worth about $1500. The only criterion is that the staff member had to have successfully completed their annual appraisal process by the deadline, and if they supervise staff, those staff have to have completed them as well.

One of my staff is a consultant, and I was informed by HQ when that person first started work that, as a consultant, they are not required to do the appraisal process. Well fast-forward a year, HQ has denied me my merit reward because my staff member failed to complete her appraisal by the deadline. Unfortunately I don’t have the original advice from HQ in writing, so it is my word against theirs.

(lesson, no matter how unimportant it may seem as the time, get all decrees from HQ in writing, and save them)

May I gently point out that it’s easier for him the way things are now. I don’t know your son, but with a lot of people, they’ll keep the status quo as long as it’s of benefit to them.

IOW you may have to cut off the rides before he’ll work on getting his license. Let him start bumming rides off other people at 3 a.m. see how long that lasts.

/toughlove

(Again, you know him better than I do.)

You could have eliminated an hour of 101 by heading east from Florence :). Rather more direct. (I grew up in that area. Graduated from HS in Florence, did a couple of years of community college in Coos Bay, favorite uncle lives in Eugene.)

That would be my BIL. His mother has done everything for him since forever. Granted, he does have mental and emotional issues, but there’s absolutely no reason he couldn’t have dealt with most things in his life. However, at 63, he’s reluctant to take any initiative. For example - he needs a job. In Ocala, he worked at McD’s, so he applied to McD’s here. They haven’t hired him. He’s no longer looking.

Anyway, finally got Tobias down to nap, and with luck he’ll get about an hour of sleep before I have to go pick up Roxanna. Or maybe FCD will wrangle him while I go get her. That would help a lot. I just added some wood to the fire downstairs - it should stay warm now for the rest of the afternoon - it was up to 75°.

I remembered to pull the meatloaf out of the freezer. Sides will be instant smashed (do not judge), broccoli, and green beans, and packet gravy (like I said, don’t judge!)

I sent off an email to the Holiday Inn where we’ll be staying for our anniversary, asking that we not have a room near any groups that might be staying. Last time, there was that noisy youth group - ugh! Altho this close to the holidays, I wouldn’t expect any groups to be doing anything at a hotel. Fingers crossed.

FCD just got back - he went to the boat and closed all the thru-hull valves. And I got the bedspread - it’s in the washer. My MIL uses a scented laundry detergent that’s just overwhelming - the spread reeked, and it hasn’t been washed since they left Ocala! Needless to say, I didn’t put anything of mine in the machine with it.

And now I’m all caught up till it’s time to make supper. I think. Maybe…

The walk last night was treacherous: small branches flying about, hard rain, general “Go home, you idiot!” weather, but a dog’s gotta pooh what a dog’s gotta pooh, and dogkins had to find the exact right spot, which took half an hour. When we went out this morning, there were so many branches lying about, I don’t know how any of them missed us. She’s really a very good, very sweet dog, though. She’s really careful not to hog the bed at night, for instance.

Today I’m baking mufins and Crack cookies. The muffins will be vegan and are for my son-in-law’s sister, who’ll arrive tomorrow, and the cookies are for my daughter and her hubs. Someone here wanted the recipe, so this time, I’ll make sure to measure everything.

Sari, this probably is of no help or even interest, but with my son’s dog’s ruptured cyst, it went through cycles of heal-and-rupture, which is why they got it surgically fixed (with lasers). And I can only assume your son, who’s so considerate, must be really afraid to get his license, as surely he knows how hard it is on you to fetch him at that unholy hour.

That sucks. Can you ask when the consultant policy went into effect? I hope somehow you can get the bonus you deserve.

flyboy, glad you and the Mrs. got home safe and sound. Sounds like an interesting trip!

FCM, I’m so sorry your family is going through all the dementia stuff. I know your MIL is stubborn, so I guess she had to see for herself that he’s past the point of apartment living. I hope FCD got some sleep. And the photos of the kids in the laundry basket is priceless.

When I’m being good, I dip my fork in the salad dressing and then spear some salad. It works for me.

Boo, good luck with the tree!

BooFae, I hope Ophelia is OK and that you don’t find a huge mess to clean up.

There was a reason we didn’t turn at Florence, but I don’t remember what it was. Mrs. L.A. lived in Coos Bay, and got her first nursing degree there.

Well, it’s not as if you were on a schedule, apparently :).
