Over the clear sky of Omak WA yesterday, a pilot used his vapor trail to outline his, uh, member-ship. The plane was apparently from Whidbey NAS, some 150 miles away. The Navy, naturally, is flustered and angry, declaring that there will be an investigation and (ahem) disciplinary action.
People in the area were upset. Well, some of them, anyway. Others thought it was somewhat amusing. The town is about 40 miles south of Osoyoos BC, but I rather doubt that the graphic was intended as some kind of hostile message to Canada (to me, it looks like it was pointing more east than north).
But really, big deal, you know. If people are constrained into perfectly decorous behavior all the time, how do they let off steam? And, well, this was a Navy pilot. I am not sure how Navy people are, but if the movies are to be believed, um.
I saw comments like “how am I supposed to explain this to me children,” and “what a waste of my tax dollars.” Sheesh. Someone recently called Americans prudish (literally, “puritanical”). I thought that was a tad extreme, but after this, I begin to wonder.
