I got a parcel today, to be accurate a large plastic shopping bag with stuff in it.
Its from my MIL’s sister and contains clothing, more specifically, dresses. :eek
Seems my MIL’s sister found out that I had worn a dress on Monday for the second time this year. She decided that I needed to expand upon my dress wearing experience, thus she has given me a bag full of dresses.
But no these are not normal dresses, these are my MIL sister’s second hand dresses, things that no longer fit her, or that she is no longer pleased with.
MIL Sister is 6ft +, somewhere over 70yo and with taste seemingly unchanged since the 50’s. I on the other hand am 5ft something, 27yo and prefer to wear jeans and leechboys shirts.
What am I to do, I know my MIL and her sister will be expecting me to present at the next family function in one of those things. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…
Oooo poor dear. That used to happen to me semi-often… my Aunt’s would send bags of clothing to my Mom… stuff she had outgrown etc. I still have at least one of the shirts though as that was about all that fit. This really nice big fluffy one for winter… but the second hand clothing getting is ALWAYS fun isn’t it?
I never get second-hand clothing. And when I do, it never has any of the sorts of things I’d like in it. Just once I’d like somebody to be cleaning out their grandmother’s closet and send me all the ancient clothes from the '40s and '50s that they find in there and think are hopelessly outdated.
If it makes you feel any better, my mother, who will be ninety in January, wants a pair of overalls for her birthday! Damn, she is spunky!
So, are you going to try to live up to those expectations? Can’t you just say that they don’t fit you? Or maybe you don’t need to explain at all. Just thank your MIL’s sister for her thoughtfulness.
Or you could tell her that a band of buck-wild models broke into your place and raided your wardrobe taking all the really beautiful clothes such as those that were passed on to you.
Or…You could swear that whatever you are wearing actually DID come from MIL’s sister’s wardrobe and that you were surprised that she would let anything so gorgeous and comfortable get away. If MIL is present, look at her intently and say, "You don’t remember? How could you forget!
She’s 6ft tall and has 50s style dresses?
Full skirts? leechbabe, have I ever told you what a wonderful person you are? how I feel lucky just to be on the same message board as you? how fortunate I am just to read your posts?
yeah, I’m with amarinth on this – someone out there (or, more easily, here) is real interested in these dresses… Vintage for tall/big women is a goldmine.
