What are the newest 'popular' candy bars?

My current favorite is the Kinder Bueno, and it is only available at the cash register, which is pretty danged annoying. I usually grab an entire display box from a closed register line.

A new one for us that we frequently see at the cash register is [Kinder Bueno] (Kinder Bueno - Wikipedia). It’s usually a bit cheaper than other candy bars. I like the light, crispy texture with hazelnut flavoring. My nine-year-old granddaughter loves them.

california_jobcase, no offense, but your taste in candy makes me want to kill you with an ice-axe, several times, as in David Ives’ Death of Trotsky. Okay, not really, but if you like the combination of sugar and cloves, and the texture of Dots, I can’t think of any effective way to torture you: you’re already immune to the worst I can think up.

This is of course a joke. Hello, and good to meet you.

Necco availability. I like the clove and chocolate, plus how the air around MIT used to smell.

Me too. Of course you have to factor in that the most heaven smell was Junior Mints wafting over the Charles. Sigh…those were the days.

They still make them, except lime. Since 1847! Issued to our troops since the Civil war.

ecch.

Dots have been much better since they started wrapping the boxes in airtight plastic. No more squeezing boxes to see if the Dots are fresh or stale.

As for pulling fillings: as a kid I lost fillings to Turkish Taffy and to a penny candy called Mary Jane.

I just bought a bag of Take 5. I love them.

Are Watchamacallits still around?

Candy bars are kind of like Christmas songs - there are about 20 that have been around forever and very few new ones are let in.

What is it with lime candies disappearing? Skittles, Life Savers, SweeTarts, the little suckers from the bank… all the green ones are now lousy apple or worse, watermelon. At least Mike and Ike still provide the finest of the candy flavors!

That is what I was coming to post. My wife and I just tried one and we both thought it was a great, light candy bar. And we aren’t huge candy bar eaters (well, I would be if I did all the shopping

wiki: In 2009, Necco changed the formula for its Necco Wafers. Artificial colors and flavors were eliminated. The candy was made softer through the addition of glycerine. The lime flavor was removed due to difficulties in creating an all-natural green coloring, resulting in a 7-flavor Necco Wafer roll.[1]

Now this is what I call fighting ignorance!

Thanks DrD.

Neccos are my favorites. They’re coming back, though still not yet in any store I’ve seen.

I bought a roll just a week ago! In a Stop & Shop, in one of those free standing cardboard displays in the area they mostly put seasonal foods, rather than near a register or even in the candy aisle.

This is so funny. I couldn’t recall seeing the commercial, although I was pretty sure I had. When I played the video, I could sing along.

Few of the candy bars named are remotely close to being new. I think UK Marathon bars were known here in North America as Snickers and far more substantial than Curly Wurly’s, sold in Canada as Wigwags before my time.

It is true many are spin-offs of old favourites, like Japanese KitKats. The newest ones (in Canada) I have seen might be OMGs, a delectable cluster of chocolate and graham cracker. Mini Eggs are newer than most.

Apparently ruby chocolate is a new type of chocolate rather than coloured/flavoured white chocolate… It was developed in 2004 but has only been available to consumers since 2018.

Trader Joe’s carried it a couple years ago. It wasn’t a branded candy bar per se. It was just okay. Kind of like white chocolate, with a slight tang to it.

It’s burned in my brain, unfortunately.

I’ve posted before of my love for Neccos, how I’ve lost weight on the Necco Diet, and my adventures buying all the rolls I could find after they stopped making them.

But, good news, they’ve started making them again in Mexico (they’re branded as from The Spangler Candy Co.).

And I finally saw a display, checked the wrappers, and tried 'em. Yay, so glad that I love the new ones, too. BUT the originals are chalkier, without any of that Actual Candy flavor… They redid the chocolate. It’s like the previous flavor, but more like chocolate, and less chalky.
