I’ve never seen Necco’s in Canada. Have no idea what they look or taste like.
Occasionally will see something American like a Heath or Whatchamacallit. Specialty stores sometimes carry British bars or Latin brands like Jet or Carlos V.
Newer trends in Canada included adding peanut butter, white chocolate or green tea coating, pretzels or caramel to well known classics which lacked these. Chunkier thick versions also had a moment. Now smaller sizes and “thins” are en vogue.
Not maybe all that new, but I love the dark chocolate Milky Way bars (Midnight Milky Way), which seem to have disappeared around here. Perhaps it is a pandemic shortage issue.
Yes they are. Might be my all time favorite candy bar. Amazing stuff.
I’m also a fan of the Take 5. That’s the closest I think we’re likely to get to the OPs question. The only other candidate is the Fast Break. And while this might get disqualified as being just a variation on a classic, I would argue otherwise. It’s a new thing, different than a Reese Peanut Butter Cup, though I admit there’s possibly a slipper slope argument to be had here.
I think if your broaden your scope to include candy, as opposed to just “bars” which imply a certain shape and construction, you might have better luck. Especially in the realm of sour candies. You’ll find newer things like Airheads, Warheads, Nerds, Sour Patch Kids, Trolli Gummy Worms and the like which were all introduced in the 80s. There’s probably something in that category that’s newer.
Edit: How about Flipz? They usually live in the chips aisle, but I say they are just candy in a bag.
Our church services have been only streaming since March (Senior pastor, on the first Sunday of the pandemic: “We’re following the Lord’s advice, which is ‘Don’t be a damn idiot!’”).
During a Zoom Coffee Hour, someone asked for home communion and suggested we each somehow have some kind of wafers at home. I said “I’ve got some stale chalky disks!” And held up a roll of Neccos.
Has anyone tried the Reese’s Dark Thins? OMG!! They are amazing. I could eat a whole bag, but with my new rule of cutting back on sweets, I limit myself to 2.
