What a fucking IDIOT.
We’ll just bring back Operation Blue Helmet" and send you all to Obama’s FEMA death camps
What a fucking IDIOT.
I know you have a busy schedule of parroting right-wing hate speech and chiding people for their potty mouths, but perhaps you could find some time to help me work on my people skills?
This thread is fucking stupid.
Nuh-uh, YOU are! <punch>
Didn’t you idiots learn your lesson during the last election ?
Because dehumanizing the other side is how you get Trump for a second term.
I’m not American, and there’s a lot I like about the U.S. but I’ve never seen this level of animosity from the American left towards the other side. People are getting assaulted for wearing hats ffs.
I see you conveniently leave “clearance dehumanization” out of your condemnation. Remember, it wasn’t until Hitler adopted the policy of “All Jews must go!” that things really got bad.
You’re not fooling anyone, Manson.
Yeah, that’s a shame.
Hey, on an unrelated note, you know people on the right have actually killed people on the other side, right?
Ah yes, the oppression Olympics.
Your side wins, keep on beating people I suppose.
We got Trump because of a constant stream of extremist right wing propaganda playing 24 hours a day on TV that demonizes the left wing as, among other things, evil, DemonRATS, tools of Satan, etc… (none of that is exaggerated).
Saying that the left wing is responsible for Trump because someone once said something mean on the internet is so incredibly stupid that I suspect you may be legally retarded.
It’s nice of you to make this clear. Otherwise, it would be difficult to tell the difference.
Regards,
Shodan
PS - Dehumanizing your opponents is bad. Unless they really deserve it, or unless your masculine parts are smaller than average. You subhuman piece of emu excrement.
Your side wins, keep on killing people I suppose.
I find it hard to condemn dehumanization at cut-rate prices.
Let’s face reality; the deplorables are real. They exist. And they’re going to vote for Donald Trump in 2020 just like they did in 2016. They’re stupid people and they don’t want to be smart. It’s too much effort.
So write them off. The people we need to aim at are the people who aren’t deplorable. The ones who voted for Trump in 2016 but are now seeing that might have been a mistake. People but who are ignorant but can learn. These are the people we need to reach if we’re going to get the sixty percent of the votes we’ll need to win the 2020 election.
Attacking these people isn’t helping. Even having these people seeing us attacking the deplorables isn’t helping. The Republicans are going to be the party of hate; they’ll win by appealing to people’s base emotions. We need to be the better party; we win by appealing to people’s better nature.
If people are afraid or angry or resentful, they’ll vote Republican. If people are feeling comfortable and confident and hopeful, they’ll vote Democrat.
Don’t forget that left wing gun violence exists.
Yes it’s rare. Yes if you wanted to tally up who’s worse it is overwhelmingly right wing extremists. I’m not saying that because the left sometimes does it, it excuses the right. Not at all. The fact that it’s rare on the left and not nearly as rare on the right is telling.
But it happens and because of that, violent rhetoric against the right is dangerous and deplorable. The shooter in the 2017 incident felt like some in this thread that Republicans were a threat and needed to be dealt with, and decided to do something about it. Protest against policies you think are bad, help campaigns that support their opponents, vote in every election you are eligible for. Heck, run if you think it’ll make a difference. But calling for the other side to be treated as nonhuman and an existential threat is dangerous. You may just be venting and might never act on your words but someone else may.
What in tarnation do you even think you’re talking about?
Asahi has not called for violence against vermin, or even denying them any civil rights. That’s your ilk’s behavior. Asahi has expressed great anger, but nowhere does he ask righteous Americans to start behaving like the vermin.
Look: If someone writes “I hate the Ku Klux Klan and the people who join that organization,” few would condemn this “hater”, right? Hating the Nazi Party is also acceptable to most Americans. The Republican Party has become an organization almost as ugly as, and far more dangerous than, the Nazis or the Klan. Is the GOP supposed to be off-limits to hatred because it’s somehow grandfathered-in, because it’s usurped the name of the once-great Party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Eisenhower? Is that why we’re supposed to sweet-mouth when speaking about an organization dedicated to crime, greed, bigotry and hatred?
I want to be charitable and to give the benefit of the doubt to those of you who support the vermin. Being uninformed about politics is as American as apple pie. I know many of you Trumpists and Republicans have never watched NPR or a decent news show, and never tried to set aside your bigotries and imagine how GOP behavior appears to informed rational people. Your parents were Republicans so you are too. So please set aside your distaste for the severe anger that some of us who are informed feel, and make a sincere effort to understand what your Republican Party has become.
I see ignorant right-wingers give lip service (“I didn’t vote for Trump.”) to rationalism and patriotism. What do you think of Betsy DeVos? Wilbur Ross? Pence? Moscow Mitch?
I suppose the rules state that we have to start by unequivocally condemning the OP. Dehumanizing others is how we get ourselves ready to harm or kill them. It’s what we do in wars, it’s what we caution against in our LEO, and it is the bread and butter of hate groups.
I’ve been on the receiving end of dehumanizing language before, both as a member of a group and as an individual, and I will say that it didn’t much endear me to their argument. My emotional gut reaction is to return the favor, and to reply in kind, but that is not the direction to peace, but to division and war, so we have to suspend our base desires to retaliate against those who seek to harm us, as there just is no way out through hatred and violence.
I dunno, Bone, you didn’t specifically and categorically denounce the OP, so, as long as you are making lists of those who were not vociferous enough in their condemnation, you should add your own. If Little Nemo’s denunciation wasn’t enough, if those who considered the OP already admonished and didn’t feel the need to reiterate what had already been iterated make it on your list, then your comment was not a condemnation of the content of the OP, but rather, just a dismissive insult to the poster, as well as a lazy swipe at those you have named.
While you are at it, here’s a name to add to your list.
Now, as a question to you Shodan, do you use dehumanizing language here because you feel that Asashi really deserves it? Is it fair to use that language if you feel that the those you are directing it at deserve it? Since Asashi felt that those he directed his comments at deserved it, does that make it okay, in your opinion?
Or do you just have a very small penis?
I would argue quite strongly that calling someone subhuman is worse than an insect. Calling someone an insect is obvious hyperbole, and while it can have dehumanizing aspects to it, it is specifically not meant to be taken literally. Metaphorical comparisons to animals is not inherently dehumanizing. If you say that someone is “fast as a cheetah”, you are not taking away their personhood in that sentence. You could make less favorable comparisons between political opponents and the habits of an animal, like an insect, without actually calling into question their humanity.
Now, if you call someone “subhuman”, then you are asking the very specific removal of their personhood the prime meaning of your statement. You are specifically questioning the humanity and their rights to continue existing.
Then of course, octupus’s NPC comment. This is language that is made for the very purpose of dehumanizing others, to make the claim that they have no sentience, no awareness, that they only exist for the amusement of the “players.” It is rooted in hate, and the only use it has (outside of gaming contexts) is that of pure hate.
So what do we have here? We have one liberal who is regularly chided by those on his political side for his hyperbole. Probably drunk and posting some rather hateful things from a place of pain and despair. Is then roundly condemned for his latest tirade by most of those on his political side.
Then we have in response, two entirely sober posts from the “right” using terms that originated specifically to dehumanize others.
Oh, of course, there’s the plutonium kid with his “swine” comment.
So, we have many if not most of the liberals that posted in this thread condemning the OP’s comments, yet, only one condemnation at all of any of the conservative dehumanizing speech of NPC, and none at all for the “subhuman” or the “swine” pejoratives.
Hmmm, is that where you point out the usually part?
Looks to me like several people (not you, Kimstu) are competing for the championship.
Indeed. I will definitely not be linking anybody to this mess.
As long as we’re in the Pit: I’ve got to wonder if there are any false flags waving. Possibly on more than one side.
That’s irrelevant. You see, when THEY actually DO things it’s OK. But WE have to be polite and respectful of their feelings. :dubious:
Does it hurt to be like this?

Shodan
What begbert2 was doing was pointing a steady finger of blame for the current mess at right wing/russian disinformation campaigns as disseminated by right wing propaganda “news” and social media. I was explicitly saying that a goodly number of right-wingers are, under the fecal crust of lies they’ve cocooned themselves in, basically decent people. (Well, give or take all the racism.) I was saying that if they could just somehow start paying attention to facts and reality rather than the teat of lies and fear they suckle on they could stop fucking sucking.
That’s actually the opposite of calling them lost causes or inhuman insects.
But if you don’t like that, then fine. They’re lost causes and inhuman insects. Kill 'em all, if that’s what you want. I’m willing to be accommodating.
Bolding mine. If this sort of shit is okay, I assume you’re also okay with people saying that all right wingers are murderous psychopaths, just because at least one has been. You like that sort of logic, right?
Okay, conceded. It’s a bit chilling when a moderator is making lists.
That said, the list was so stupidly composed, with clearly no care to accuracy, or even thought, it’s hard for me to take that shit seriously.
And by “beating people” you mean, “explicitly being opposed to murder, which is a thing you’re mocking and criticizing here”.
