What are you getting your SO for Christmas?

We bought a house this past year, so money is a bit tight at the moment… consequently, and as neither of us really need anything, we decided to take the attitude that we are living in our mutual X-mas present this year. We still haven’t decided whether we are even getting a tree this year (though we probably ought to make up our minds soon!).

However: wifey has been wanting a GPS navigation unit for her car, as she spends a LOT of time driving to different places as part of her job; and I found a GREAT deal on a Magellan Roadmate GPS unit… so I cheated and got it for her. Also, I had already gotten her a couple of books before we made the decision to skip out this year… so she’ll have a couple of presents. She probably will get me a couple of small things too, not that I need anything.

I got my wife Mario Galaxy, and an iPod nano so she can stop stealing mine.

SO is a Doper so going to have to give this thread a pass.

Wifey is getting:

An electric can opener.
A steam cleaner for drapes and carpets
A digital camcorder
A very nice watch
A new computer for both of us to share
One hot sex-filled evening in the hotel of her choice, away from the kids

And yes, she requested each and every one of these items within the last 12 months…I just happen to listen and jot these things down in my pocket calendar…

And I really don’t care what hotel it is…just as long as the sheets are clean and the showers are hot.

Until just a few minutes ago I had no idea what to get my girlfriend, but I have been saved! A very lucky, and I hope very happy, lady is going to get this bracelet. I’m told just the sight of little blue box should be enough to get me laid, so keep your fingers crossed!

My husband and I haven’t exchanged gifts in longer than I can remember - at least 10 years. The thing is, when we want stuff, we get it. And with our daughter scheduled to graduate, get married, and move in May, all excess funds are budgeted for that.

Even if we were doing gifts, I have no idea what I’d get him. So it’s a good thing we’re not bothering.

A king sized fuzzy blanket

Usher Perfume

These Chocolates

This Bracelet

and a gift cert for Williams-Sonoma.

Our limit was $100. She’s gonna be maaad at me.

Ipod nano
Suit Jacket
shirt
some cds
a dvd

And the results of our IVF cycle.

The book Cookwise that we heard about on Minnesota Public Radio’s Splendid Table

Another book, What Einstein Told His Cook, which I noticed on Amazon when ordering the first book

The DVD for Miss Potter, a movie we enjoyed seeing

A CD of Richard Thompson’s Sweet Warrior

And, the present we won’t be opening at the in-law’s
A Hitachi Magic Wand that I learned about in this thread.

A nice pair of pearl earrings
A mystic topaz ring
The Complete Calvin & Hobbes
Bones season 1
A Christmas Story DVD

A new car stereo

Some DVDs

Some new clothes - probably something for dressing up, plus sweatshirts and workout pants.

Depending on your outlook, Mrs. Top and I are getting each other nothing, or we both bought each other half of a house (closed yesterday.)

Peace - DESK

I have one sneaky gift on my list that I simply must share!

We are invited to attend a New Years Eve wedding celebration at a nearby snooty country club. The dress, from the invitation, said ‘Black Tie Optional’. Now he hates to get dressed up, and doesn’t really enjoy weddings for that matter. His standard wedding attire is shirt, tie, sport jacket. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

So I considered raising the issue, except I know just how it will go. “It says ‘optional’ right there!” When we first met he was working in a bar where he dressed in tuxedo wear every night and he looked good too! But that was back in the mists of time.

So I’m going to give him a gift certificate for a ‘black tie’ rental! Sheer sparkling brilliance I think. He’ll have to accept it graciously, and I get to see him all gussied up. I’m wearing a gown I figure he should look fancy too!

To be fair, he’s getting me a Bose cd player that HE wants. I don’t really care, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it too. But knowing he was getting me that, made my choice all the easier.

Also a scrabble board, the retro one. PJ pants. Screwdriver. I looked and looked for a cd cabinet but couldn’t find one to suit.

Our real gift to each other is a wood stove that is being installed as I type. Before this day is through I could be sitting in front of a crackling fire! With four feet of snow on the ground I may not leave the house for days!

My SO and I already “exchanged” gifts. We’re low on funds right now, so I got him a six pack of tabi socks and he got me a brick of Caca Marron Mama from LUSH. I’ve got redder hair, and he’s got warm toes that can still wear flip flops.

Awwww.

I got Himself a Sony Netsharing Cam. It’s not a great camera, but it’s really good quality for the price, which is all I could afford right now.

He’s getting S1 of Dexter and a gift card to Starbucks. He’s getting a freelance business up and running, and doesn’t have a lot of contact with the “outside” world when he’s really involved in something, so maybe he’ll get out and about a few times, if only for coffee.

I don’t have an SO, but my fun Christmas friend/host/birthday girl is getting a bottle of plum-scented bubble bath from The Body Shop.

I bought my husband the 3rd season of Lost (no surprise, I buy the DVD set for him each year), and the George Carlin DVD collection. Now I have to figure out what to buy for his birthday, 5 days after Christmas. I’m thinking of an HD digital camcorder.

I just found out yesterday that he’s bought me a new microwave. I’m really trying to be enthusiastic about it, but come on, it’s a microwave oven. (What I asked for was shades for our living room windows, and a curling iron.)

I got him a beautiful sweater from men’s Express, along with a long sleeved tee to go under it. He looks so sexay when I dress him up. And I also want to try to find one more gift for him, but I can’t think of what. I did also get him a subscription to Penthouse because I found it for like $3.00 on eBay. He’s going to laugh his ass off when he sees that in the mailbox (and I’m hoping he’ll also like it, it’s not the sort of thing he’d buy for himself, lol).

I don’t know what he’s getting me, but I saw some mints on the table that had the Shane Co. logo on them. And his aunt works there so we get a great discount. So yippeee, I just might be getting the diamond stud earrings I’ve been pining for. I told him not to get me anything big though, so it could be a bracelet. Whatever the case, I’m sure it will be great. He’s awesome about stuff like that.

I got her a menorah. I know, I’m such a goy, but it happens, and she had been complaining about how she missed lighting the menorah with her family. I did have the presence of mind to give it to her in time for the holiday, though.
