As of right now… see above. plus thai food, tombstone pizza, grilled chicken with honey & soy, STEAK oh dear god I’m obsessed with steak, a cheeseburger… fries. I could go for fries. (Yeah, I’m a teenager. I’m also an athlete and have a killer metabolism. Last time I ate? I wanna say half an hour ago.)
Creamy spinach casserole. I made some the other day, and I got to eat most of it over the last few days, since my husband doesn’t like it as much as I do. It’s very rich, but oh so yummy. (Cream cheese, bacon, onions, spinach, mushrooms, buttery crumb topping. Mmmmm.)
Oh god, poutine. Like that chip truck on campus makes. Steaming hot fries, just a little crispy on the outside, moist with oil, firm enough that the gravy doesn’t make them mushy, interspersed with enormous squeaky curds warmed perfectly by the gravy and just beginning to soften POUTINE NOW.
I want a chip butty. Proper chips, none of yer oven-ready crap, thick cut and deep-fried with the skin still on 'em, with lots of salt and vinegar, between thick slices of crusty white bread smothered with real butter, which is just starting to melt from the heat of the chips.
Dribble
Due the high fat and GI value of the above, though, what I’m having is a still-green banana.
I have to keep telling myself how miserable I was when I was overweight.
I made Shake’n’Bake porkchops last night. (Oh, shut up! Yes, I can cook. Yes, Shake’n’Bake is 1960s food-inna-box. But I like it!) Of course I made mashed potatoes and gravy. I had a bowl of potatoes that wouldn’t fit in the little Glad container, so I had potatoes and gravy for breakfast.
Not really hungry for anything right now. I’ll probably have a chop later though. Might even heat it up.
Practically everything in this thread. I haven’t eaten lunch yet. Kythereia, why the hell can’t we get really good poutine in Toronto? It’s not fair!
Right now I want pho or stirfried vermicelli with beef. Or a real barbeque pork sandwich from the sort of barbeque place that doesn’t exist in this city.
Actually–and this is going to sound so corny, but–the food court down in the Yonge and Eglinton plaza has a New York Fries, and their poutine is halfway decent. Not the best, but it’s an okay substitute.
I want a Nighthawk Steak and Tater Dinner. I haven’t had one in a coon’s age, but they’re (were?) pretty good. For the uninitiated, it’s a frozen dinner featuring a chopped sirloin patty with a dollop of butter on top, along with some tater tots on the side. The key is, after it’s cooked, you pour the juice from the sirloin patty into the tater tot compartment. [homer] mmm, meat juice on my tater tots…[/homer]
Veal. I want several nice milk-fed veal cutlets fried in olive oil and butter with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice just before serving. A nice salad and a carafe of merlot would make it even better.
