What are you listening to right now?

The Derek Trucks Band, a set from a benefit on March 22 in New York. I loved this band anyway, and I wrote a big feature article about them last year, but the way they continue to evolve amazes me all the same. On the CD, they just finished their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “To Know You is To Love You,” which is one of my favorites. Very smoky, and that guitar tone is still invincible.

Seeing Todd Rundgren on Conan last night set me off—I’ve been listening to the Something/Anything album off and on all day.

Mr. Jones by Talking Heads.

Now I’m listening to Newgrange - Clannad

Lacrimosa’s “Alleine Zu Zweit”.

Snow Patrol-Final Straw

Korn - A.D.I.D.A.S.

Such a Scream by Tom Waits off the Bone Machine album. I had no idea that’s what this song was called, though. I figured it was something about how we’re all gonna be dead in the ground, cause that’s the chorus. Learn something new everyday, I guess.

“Along Comes Mary” by The Association, while performing an editing operation on Jimi Hendrix: Fillmore East, Disc 1, so I can listen to it next.

Specifically: “Adia” – Sarah McLachlan

More generally: It’s my current favorite playlist, called “Bunch of Stuff” because specific and pertinent file names are important. Recently played songs include “Virginia Woolf” (Indigo Girls), “Bang Bang” (Nancy Sinatra), “Michelle” (The Beatles), “Miss Misery” (Elliot Smith), and “Hard Time Killing Floor Blues” (Chris Tomas King). My listening tastes are generally pretty mellow.

Ooh! It just changed to “Eleanor Rigby.” And now some Elvis Costello after previewing and editing.

Miami '05 by Markus Schulz

you know, this is humiliating, but I’m listenign to the Fifth Demension. Age of Aquarious, Won’t you Marry me Bill…and so one. I love it. I can’t deny it any longer. Someone please save me.

I’m going to Coachella tomorrow so I’m trying to brush up on the headliners that I’m not too familiar with. Currently, Bauhaus.

“She’s in Parties” from the album “Burning From the Inside”

The Space Ritual album, by Hawkwind.

I’m still convinced that it’s the Best. Live album. Ever.

Of course, you gotta (a) be in an altered state of consciousness, and (b) play it loud.

*Days of Open Hand * by Suzanne Vega.

I also like her other self titled album.

Brian Eno - Empty Frame

Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman - The Tubes

Wow, some really well known stuff, and some stuff I’ve never ever heard of before, that I now want to try out. And I’m sure it’s all great music. Keep it coming guys!

Masta Ace-Take a Walk

I wish someone, ANYONE, cared about late 80s rap legends who made comebacks in the early 00s. Please.

Soundtrack to Taxi Driver - Bernard Herrmann’s final (and possibly greatest) work.
