Narcissistic as it may be, I’m listening to DfrntBreign by DfrntBreign. This has to win the obscurity prize, as it is a copy of a demo that no-one but me and a few friends have ever heard.
In rotation for the last couple days have been
Live from Austin - Eric Johnson,
All That I Am - Santana,
What We Like - Hillbilly Stu (my nephew’s band.)
Best Of Taste feat. Rory Gallagher
Rapture of the Deep - Deep Purple.
“Lately”? God, everything from Bach to Show Tunes to Yoko Kanno. As usual.
At this very moment, “Rocket’s Tail” by Kate Bush (on my “Let’s Light This Candle” iTunes playlist.)
I have been in such a hip hop mood lately, which if you know me is really strange. Started the week out with some old school KRS-one, moved onto Blackstar, then Madvillany by Madvillan (MF DOOM and Madlib, it’s amazing) and the last two days have been listening to RjD2’s album Dead Ringer, specifically F.H.H. over and over and over again. That and the Pixies live at Newport acoustic set as well as the Pogues live. But RIGHT NOW, I am listening to Portishead’s album ** Dummy** and **Numb **is the track that is on.
“Syracuse” is a great song as well. And I totally dig QOTSA. They are awesome.
Right now? Arizona Amp and Alternator… a new project involving Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), M. Ward and members of Grandaddy.
It’s damn good. Damn, damn, damn good.
New day! Earlier: Kate Bush - Aerial (both discs). Trooper - Hot Shots. Frank Zappa - UMRK Rehearsals. Now: Ian Dury - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick.
OK, the board timed out again before my post went through. Now I’m listening to Martin Mull And His Fabulous Furniture.
I got to the aforementioned Brokeback soundtrack after all. Lovely.
Also depressing as all get out, but I keep playing it anyway.
And…I can’t believe I’m about to admit this, but I actually don’t mind the c/w songs on it. Normally, I’m not a fan. This could really change things.
Blah Blah Blah Iggy Pop Rediscovered it and love it.
New York - Lou Reed.
In the car on the way home, I had** New Roman Times** by CVB at a million decibels.
At this moment, the dishwasher and the whir of my husband’s computer.
Earlier today I listened to Annie Lennox: Diva, Melissa Etheridge:Skin, The Wallflowers: Breach, Savage Garden: Affirmation and a mixed CD of songs that were popular in Kenya when I was there (late 2002).
