What are you saving up to buy?

  • Classic car
  • Fireplace
  • New Master Bedroom set
  • Boat

small scale: digital camera, second garage door opener, shed/storage building, expanded patio, dual exhaust for truck…
Dear Santa,

~Phil

I’m saving up for an XBox and a GeForce4 for my PC. I also keep a list of movies that I want to buy on DVD, the occasional game that I can’t get free and books. I have a couple of DVDs I may buy this weekend. Need to save to buy Harry Potter next week, too.

As for purchase I don’t have to use my personal savings on, we need a new oven and possibly a new garbage disposal (note to self: do not rinse cups of dental plaster in the kitchen sink).

A fifty-seven inch Sony 16:9 TV. Whooooo doggies. I’m currently in the middle of a massive construction project to make an entertainment area where it will fit in just right.

Now all I need is $2000.

College for our daughter.

We’re trying to save for:

  1. A new Dodge Caravan and/or Dodge 4-door extended cab
  2. Another baby
  3. A 4 bedroom 2 bath house with a fenced in yard and two car garage.
  4. Vacations to Scotland, Ireland, and Disneyland

These are listed in order too. Hopefully we’ll have have the minivan and/or truck by the end of this year and hopefully I’ll be pregnant in September or October this year. The house is going to take about 5 years and the vacations will take about 10 years. Other than that we have everything we want/need.

House, car. This’d all be easier if I didn’t have to pay rent or feed the kids.

Med school. And if that doesn’t pan out I can use all that saved money to set up an appartment and get out of my parents house. Yay!

Plane ticket to southeast Asia. (Actually, I’ve got the money already, just have various other responsibilities that mean I can’t travel right now. But come January – WOO HOO!)

Other than that it’s all fairly boring; I figure I’ll need car repairs and a new computer at some point, so I don’t want to dip too heavily into the savings account.

A truck for m’dogs (a cheap, ugly one, like for less than $1,000)
A finished basement
A DVD player

a four-plex.

My own business. I want to own my own day-spa - but you should see what the plumbing costs are! So I’m saving up for 6 showers, one large hydrotherapy tub, two individual hydrotherapy tubs, and a wet/dry massage table with overhead shower.

Wrinkled fingers are in my future.

This concept of saving money is foreign to me.

But actually, I’m putting a bit away so I can afford to go to VegasDope.

And I’m seriously considering putting down 90 bones for the new Star Wars gunship Lego set.

An apartment
Furniture for Said Apartment

I’m with Ferrous. I don’t make enough to actually save any.

I put some money down on 5 acres last week. The minimum square footage in the development is 2,000 s.f.

I’m saving for the house downpayment.

I should be saving towards freedom from debt. But, I’m not. The boss wants to re-model our 30 year old bathroom, complete with gold, avocado, brown and green floor tile and off-white with goldflake shower tile. What was it about early 70’s mid-america interior design?

We’re saving for:

-Rattan or bamboo furniture for the sunporch.
-A nice persian rug for the living room.
-SCUBA equipment for my husband.
-money to have people come build a 65 foot long, 8 foot high wall in our back yard.
-longer-term - we’re saving to pretty much gut and re-do our kitchen, which I suspect was designed by the same person who did Lorenzo’s bathroom.

Too much to list.

It’s tough to be a geek on a budget…

My dream car… a 70’s style fully restored Chevy Nova.

Go ahead and laugh.

Strangely enough…nothing. I did find plans for my ultimate dream home, and affording it wouldn’t be a problem at all if we moved to another area of the country, but my husband has absolutely no interest in either, so that’s really the only thing that’s out of my reach at this time.

(I keep thinking a digital movie camera might be nice, but don’t really have anything to use it for. No kids and neither my husband or myself is really worth looking at repeatedly, so what would I film?)
