What are your most unpopular opinions?

A little more time for what?

Death is inevitable, but it’s also the enemy.

Assuming you disagree, I’ll send over a bottle of Riesling, a revolver, and six bullets.

You’ve reminded me of one of my unpopular opinions - that having kids isn’t a fundamental human right since one of the worst problems we’re dealing with now and in the future is overpopulation. Children born to North Americans are due to use an obscene amount of resources; children born in overcrowded third world countries are making all their problems worse.

Try box lacrosse - I am almost completely uninterested in all other sports, but I find box lacrosse to be a really exciting live sport.

That’s a good point, worth remembering.

My problem with liberals is how they have so many ideas about how to use public funds to help people, but very fuzzy thinking on how they’re going to get all that money to give away.

I like German marching music. To be fair I like those from Soviet Russia too.

I think there should be a world government which should essentially be an outgrowth of a union of First World liberal democracies rather than anything like Star Trek’s Federation or whatever.

I am a Five Point Calvinist.

I find tans horribly unattractive.

I dislike any sort of excessive makeup on women and any makeup on men. I also disapprove of all jewelry on men except on a ring along with all piercings. For women all piercings except those on the ear.

I see little attraction for girls who delibrately go around school exposing themselves as much as possible in tank-tops, ultra-short jeans, and the like.

I don’t find people who dye their hair attractive especially if they’re in unnatural colours.

I want to go back to the days when everyone wore suits to school and people wore hats to work.

I think most modern art is crap. Impressionists are about as abstract as I can get while still being good art. I think overall the pre-Raphaelites produced the best art ever.

I support sterilization for convicted rapists, pedophiles, and other sex crimes.

I want a high speed rail system in this country even if its heavily subsidized and operates at a loss for several years.

Huh. That’s an “unpopular opinion”? I’m surprised.

For me? Hmm… that’s a tough one. Maybe around here it’s not a big deal, but I just don’t get “patriotism” and being proud of an accident of birth and geography. I’m appreciative and interested in my country’s heritage and in my ethnic heritage, and I wish to do everything I can to progress it. But I don’t see a need for me to be “proud” to be a certain nationality or ethnicity. I had nothing to do with that.

See, and I would put enjoying and preferring modern art, personally, as my “unpopular opinion.” Most people I know seem to think like you do in this regard. Even on this board.

I prefer modern art as well.

Another one.

I believe we are living in a golden age of pop music. Everything else may be crap, but top 40 club tunes have never been so good.

It used to be my stance on gay marriage (in fact, in my office it’s still fairly unpopular). In my family it would be that and my aversion to religion (coupled with my perchance to argue about it every chance I get :p) along with my aversion to all things woo related (a lot of my family is big on ghosts, UFOs and the like). On this board, I’d say it’s my economic opinions that are most unpopular, though my stance on the 2nd also seems to be relatively unpopular here (even though I’m not opposed to gun controls or regulation).

I agree.

This reminds me of one of my own controversial opinions: Your teenager’s sex life is none of your goddamn business. You don’t get to decide for them when and how and with whom they have sex. Your job is to give them as much accurate information as humanly possible to make an informed decision. Your job is also to take them to Planned Parenthood if they need BC.

If a teenager has sex with someone and regrets it, it’s not the end of the world. People have experiences they regret. It’s part of life. Move along.

(I know these opinions are at least somewhat controversial because my husband and I don’t agree on this topic at all.)

I can’t stand art based on retro video games, especially the kind that involves just directly copying pixels to make sprites out of household objects or some shit. Sewing Mario onto a throw pillow shows nothing but your lack of creativity.

Art based on retro games is is so overwhelmingly “safe” that it just screams “love me for my genericness! I like things that everyone else under 40 likes but pretends they’re still obscure! Teehee so nerdy!”

I agree, but more than that I think most modern art is a scam. A lot of artists are creating the kind of weird work they think will make them money, they know full well their weird shit has no inherent meaning. They’re trying to please their peers with what they think they want so that they’ll get a load of cash. And it works, which annoys me even more.

It’s good that all you’re annoyed by is merely a strawman of your own invention.

Is your teenager 13 or 17, and are they having sex with a peer or an adult? I think the level of controversy goes up significantly depending on those two factors.

YES!

Ya see? In my experience, that’s the typical response to modern art, not the “unpopular one.” It’s all “my kid can draw this!” and sentiments like that. And what is this nonsense about “inherent meaning”? To paraphrase a statement about poetry, art should not mean, it should be. I don’t want art with an inherent meaning most of the time. But that’s a discussion for a different thread, and one we’ve had here a million times, with the same lame-ass arguments against modern art.

That just frustrates me even more.

I hardly think this is any more prevalent now than it was in other artistic eras.

I’m pretty sure that the vast majority of the time it doesn’t work at all. I don’t think most artists are really in it for money.

Wow, I agree with you here on a lot of things.

About 95% of the human race could die tomorrow and I wouldn’t bat an eye, as long as it was the “right” 95%. Your value of “right” will most certainly differ.

Tattoos are for morons.

The Wire was boring as fuck.

I think people who cannot take care of themselves should not be allowed to have children.
