Another unpopular opinion: People who type in all-lowercase make it easy to read, and encourage people to read it. It is not a product of an insufferable ego trip.

I believe in the red state/blue state divide and that it has come to the point that people on the other side are no longer really my countrymen. I do however, believe that it is possible to be a red stater in a blue state and vice versa.
I believe that people who are opposed to congressional voting rights for the District of Columbia are mostly racists who think it is funny to deny rights to the large number of blacks who live in the city.
I also believe that workers with kids get too many breaks to leave work early to get their kids, not work late, etc. while those of us who know how to use birth control are picking up the slack “work from home my ass.”
If you believe that, why don’t you type in all-lowercase yourself?

The Watchmen movie was far better than the comic. The comic had an interesting plot, theme, and ideas but was failed by both its artwork and its writing.

True enough, but his/her posts are written using standard capitalization.
And Bell Hooks was full of shit, incidentally. There’s a reason the written English language evolved to use capitalization as it does. Along with the various marks of punctuation, a convenient and clear marker for the beginnings and endings of sentences and clauses; it aids the reader in parsing the writer’s meaning in a minimally intrusive way.
I agree. I find the lower case characters more pleasant to the eye. They also don’t have that attitude of the upper case case characters, all smug and superior and shouty like that.
My advice to you: never study German.
ETA. typing in all lowercase is quite clearly much harder to read. Parsing sentences and such just doesn’t work as well without uppercase.

Yes, that’s why I’d like the south to leave. Let’s set a date, and if you’re a liberal get your ass out of the south by that date and if you’re a conservative get your ass out of the north. I’m tired of the nation being held hostage by our most backward members.

Men today have the same reproductive rights as women pre-Roe. “Keep your dick in your pants.” is as useful a statement as “Use aspirin for birth control, hold one between your knees.” Contraception available to men is no better than then either, it’s either a rubber or get your tubes snipped. No, I don’t have a better way to handle reproductive rights & contraception, but I recognize the complete stagnation on the male side of the issue.

I think it’s okay to tip a server less for mediocre service, and nothing for shitty service. I don’t agree with the fact that they make only $2.38 an hour in salary, but that’s not my fault and I’m not going to make up the difference just because of greedy managers and owners. To balance it out, I’ll often tip 40% or more for great service.

I think people are overly hypersensitive when it comes to children and sexuality. Before I get castrated and lynched by the SDMB, let me say that it’s never, ever okay to abuse a child. But I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with a grown man finding a teenage girl attractive as she’s naturally at birthing age. Nature is intending for him to be attracted to her. I also don’t think it’ll damage a kid to see nudity or discuss sex with a parent.

Semi-related to the above, I think males should be allowed to decide for themselves if they want to be circumcised. It shouldn’t be the parents’ decision to have a boy’s genitals mutilated when he can’t even object. For the record, I wish I had been given a choice.

I agree with Bill Cosby. I think many black folks (not all, of course) need to take some responsibility and stop blaming white people and/or the system for their problems. Yes, racism exists. Yes, the system is unfair toward minorities. But you’re not helping yourselves out by having five children by five different unknown fathers. You’re not helping yourselves out by perpetuating violent crimes and gangs. Have some dignity and respect for yourselves so that you can have respect from others.

Finally, some drug laws seriously need to be loosened. I don’t partake myself, but I’ve read article after article of research scientists who have evidence that marijuana and psilocybin have properties that would be very beneficial for both physical and mental illnesses. However, research is stymied by the fact that doctors are going through a bureaucratic nightmare trying to get clinical trials approved, which they can’t because of someone’s overblown sense of morality over half a century ago.
