This is my dog, Cinnamon.
It’s a highland cow, because they’re my spirit animal. (And also because it reads legibly in such a tiny space.)
Mine is popular Korean actress/celebrity Ji-hyun Jun.
“Tippy the Turtle”, the most famous of the “Draw Me!” figures from correspondence art school fliers found in elementary school magazines and readers. You’d draw the (relatively easy) turtle yourself, mail it in and find out from their trained judges that you’re an art savant and would be wasting your talent if not for their paid courses.
Years ago (but in the 2000s), my son came home with one of those and was excited to give it a shot. I explained to him what the gig was and how, when I was his age, I also wanted to draw said turtle… but when I mentioned it to my mother, she told me about how she ALSO saw Tippy the Turtle at the same age and DID draw him herself and mail it in which resulted in a high pressure salesman visiting her home and a heap of trouble from her father (who presumably never drew Tippy himself). So Tippy’s been haunting my family for generations but I guess Art Instructions School closed up shop in 2016 so his reign of terror has finally come to an end.
That was the plot of a long-ago Superman story!
Clark discovered that Jimmy had been suckered in by a correspondence “art school” so he signed up himself to try to catch the fraud.
With his super-talents, he drew so well that the guy who ran the art school had him start painting “copies” of old masters that he was actually going to start using in elaborate art theft cons.
But Clark included obvious errors (switching poses left to right, substituting a snare drum in the Night Watch copy and so on), and the art school guy got done for art fraud.
A kitten in a little Santa-type suit. It’s my Xmas avatar, but I haven’t bothered to change it yet, since I have to find something I like. Probably something else cat-like.
The Voyager probe. But that isn’t the source of my name. Neither is it the Star Trek Voyager. Voyager is the starship in a series of stories I’m writing. I have a picture I drew, but it wouldn’t look good at avatar size.
Hopefully mine is easy to see. As to what it is? It is basically the Garden State Parkway sign redone for my user name.
Dot Warner from Animaniacs (she’s the Warner sister (you’d like her if you kissed her)). I want you to read all of my posts in her voice.
She’s voiced by Tess MacNeille who you know from…everything.
Okay, I’ve updated since the holidays, so now I have Marie from The Aristocats. That was always one of my favorites when I was little, and of course, I love kitties.
I love, love, love the Aristocats (one of the most underrated Disney animated movies). Marie, what a sweetie
A loach.
This here that you’re currently glancing up at is Jorma Kaukonen, guitar player and song singer/writer from Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane.
Precisely why I chose something bright and uncomplicated. It’s a “Caution! Slow Moving Vehicle” sign.
Mine is a crocodile that has leapt completely clear of the water in pursuit of food. If I’m remembering correctly it was being fed from a tourist boat using a pole with bait tied to a string. I know that’s done to get the crocs up close but not 100% sure the one in picture wasn’t after a low flying bird. I change mine once in a while so apologies to you future dopers if it’s something different…
Yours, I got!
My dog Gordie, drinking a Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day.
Mine is a very curious and insistent albatross.
I have no idea. I’ve only been able to determine he’s a resident somewhere in San Francisco.
Horns. No surprise there!
d&r
Golf clap.
Mine is theSalmon of Knowledge. What better avatar for a site dedicated to fighting ignorance?
