What Are Your Top 5 Favorite Sports Cars?

Hmmmm…let’s see…Cars I could actually afford:

Nissan Fairlady 300ZX Twin Turbo
Toyota Supra TT
Mazda RX-7
Nissan Skyline R-34
1987 Nissan Maxima

My list is a little rice-y but I dont consider a Honda Civic a sports car, .

The old Jaguar XKE. The only really sleek sports car.

1989 Ferarri F-40
2000 BMW M5
2001 BMW Z8
1967 Shelby Cobra
2000 Dodge Viper RT/10

The Phantom is some concept car that Plymoth might release soon. It’s another one of their retro look cars similar to the PT Cruiser. Except the Phantom isn’t a van, or whatever the PT Cruiser is.

My friend had a 300ZX Twin Turbo. He bought it for about 10k a year or two ago. Talk about a steal! Apparently, somebody did, because two weeks ago, when he got home from a Chiefs game, it was.

Prowler, not “Phantom”. Oh well. starts with a “P”.

All together now, “The Plymouth Prowler and PT Cruiser stink!”

The reason why I say that is because of how derivative the two designs look (especially the Prowler). Quite the hodgepodge of previous designs or styles with marginal cohesion of overall appearance.

Some blasts from the past:

Jaguar SS100
Alfa Romeo 2900B Touring Spyder
Jaguar XK120
Allard J2
M-B 300SL Gullwing

  1. Lotus Elise
  2. Ferrari 360 Modena
  3. BMW M Roadster
  4. Porsche Boxter
  5. Honda S2000

Hmmmm, no American cars on the list. But pretty balanced otherwise.

Not exactly sportscars (well, the first 2 are), but good enough for me–

In no particular order:
Shelby Cobra 427 S/C (NOT AC–there never was an AC Cobra)
'63 Corvette (only Chevy I ever liked)
'67 Shelby Mustang GT500 427
'70 Plymouth Roadrunner SuperBird 426 Hemi*
'00 Henessey Viper Venom 600 GTS*
'83-'93 Ford Mustang TX DPS interceptor
*–wings!

McLaren F1 LM
Jaguar XJ220

In order of what I think would be nice to own:

Porsche 911 Turbo
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
2001 Corvette Z06 Coupe
Ferrari 512M
Jaguar XJ220 (But only because I always used to hear about it as being the fastest production car in the world, and looks decent.)

Top 5 of All Time

  1. Ferrari 250 GTO (1962/1963)
  2. Porsche 911 SC (1974)
  3. Lamborghini Miura (1971)
  4. Jaguar E-Type V12 (1968-1973)
  5. Morgan +8 P.I.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll add a Top 5 of currently available sports cars. I would like to add that I’m glad to see so many Lotus Elise lovers here. I had the fortunate experience of a 2 hour test drive in the Southern German countryside with one. What a blast! This thing is stickier than gum. And very tailhappy, too

Let me say on behalf of Lotus Elise lovers, we’re glad to see you here as well. I had to limit my list to currently produced cars in order to get it down to five. I’m just hoping to be recognized as having good taste for an American ;). Now I have to get back to drooling that picture of the Jaguar.
