I love cars. Always have, ever since I was a kid drooling over pictures of my Dad’s '65 GTO in the family scrapbook.
Like many, I love a lot of the classic musclecars from the 1960’s, but cars have never been more capable than they are now, so I would posit that the era of the musclecar is actually right now (in the face of growing concerns over peak oil, etc…kinda ironic!).
Anyhoo, purists will scoff at me but there are a couple of cars that I really like right now.
THAT car is amazing looking! The GT 350 variant is a beauty too.
See, I really like the looks of the old cars, but not a whole lot else (well, the sound is cool too). Modern engines, brakes, suspension/tires, and accoutrements make cars like these far more appealing to me than a pristine restored musclecar from the 1960’s/early 1970’s. YMMV.
Well, this is what I drive every day. It has the LS1 5.7 liter engine that also came in the C5 Corvette. It is electronically limited to 165 mph but I have only had it up to 140. It has it’s own special building, just for it, a sort of dream car garage.
Edit doesn’t seem to work. The picture on the beach is at the actual end of the Lewis & Clark trail. In the background is Tillamook Head, Seaside Or would be on this side and Cannon Beach on the far side.
Busy morning on the beach. There were a few people walking in the other direction but the view behind the car looks like I have the whole thing to myself.
The Wiesmann Roadster. They’ve been a gorgeous recreation of the English sports car since day one. When I was a young man I crammed my 6’7" frame into first an Austin-Healy Sprite and then an MG Midget just because I loved the idea of these cars so much. I’ll never own one of these German beauties, but I love looking at them.
I have always loved Trans Ams. They are soooo much better looking than the same generation Camaro. I picture greasy Italians with hairy chests and gold nugget pinkie rings in Trans Ams…all I think of with Camaros is “redneckmobile”
You think that Lancia could use a few more headlights? I don’t think the driver will be able to see properly…
Wow…that looks a lot like a Jaguar to me with that grille…
I go to a lot of car shows and get tired of Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, and Barracudas. So it’s the less common cars that catch my eye.
Olds 442 I’ve always liked the looks of this car, especially with the stripes. And it’s attainable.
I also like some of the old station wagons, like this 66 Chevy Caprice.
As far as more modern and attainable vehicles, I always liked the late 90’s Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon. They could be had with AWD and turbo so they were fairly respectable.
I was renting a car once, and the attendant asked which one I wanted. I looked around and saw this one. I’ll take the angry looking car, fast and not bad on gas.
That’s a proper Lotus. I don’t much care for the Exige. Its just so tiny! Although I have heard its an absolute riot to drive due to its incredible handling.
I don’t know much about cars, but a few months ago I moved into a relatively wealthy area of my city.* For some people they are used to this and always have been, but before I was not used to seeing expensive cars everywhere. I came from a sea of Corollas.
Every day I see Bentleys (cool ones too), Audi A8s, high end BMWs (M5s, 7 series, 6 series coupes, etc), Mercedes SLs, “good” Porsches, brand new Lamborghinis, I tailgated a McLaren MP4-12C one day and my eyes were popping out of my head. Some of these cost more than the house I live in. Cars like THAT turn my head. I haven’t seen a Lexus LFA before, but that car is super hot. That’s my type of dream car.
*I am not rich, I drive a 09 Civic, and I rent a tiny ass house out here. I love the central location
I’ve always been in love with the pre-war Citroen Traction-Avant, with French agents in trench coats stepping out of the suicide doors in old black and white flicks.
