What can replace the Confederate Flag as a symbol of Southern Pride?

The flag of whoever comes out first in SEC football each year.

As said, that’s not regional but frankly it seems to fit the “I’m a rebel who doesn’t trust the government” bill just fine. Only it has the more positive historical context of the Revolution versus the whole “war to preserve slavery” thing.

I’ve lived in New England my entire life, and have never noticed that flag either.

A deflated football wearing a shabby hoodie would make a good NE flag.

I kid, I kid.

“Southern Pride” is the seemingly acceptable and quasi-innocent excuse for what is really grudge-holding and refusal to accept the ethos of the nation as a whole beyond the portion that is absolutely unavoidable. It would perhaps be more accurately referred to as “Southern Obstinance.”

True affection for the charms of the South – and there are many – doesn’t require a flag, and especially not a flag that has been closely associated with institutional racism, racial violence, and scorn for what is generally considered the better side of American ideals. Stubbornly clinging to said flag does not show its supporters in a flattering light. In my opinion, this is a good time for Southerners to let go of the Confederate Flag, along with all the undesirable things it has stood for, and promote the admirable aspects of their region.

What can replace the Confederate Flag as a symbol of Southern Pride?

A picture of a girl looking longingly at her brother’s really small penis?

Yes and perhaps the gay pride flag should show infographics comparing AIDS infection rates for homosexuals and heterosexuals.

As for a good symbol of Southern pride, it should be something that supplements the American flag, so if any of the unionists in say East Tennessee or elsewhere had a flag, that would be a good candidate IMO.

How about this?

Watch the ad again - you never see the roof of the General Lee

That’s a nice looking flag, but it has come to be associated with two things I can’t get behind: independence for the region and soccer.

First, distinguish between “The South” and “The Confederacy/CSA.”

Let’s just cut to the chase.

Here aresome other options.

I’m from NY yet with all the vitriol towards southerners here I hope they say FU and redouble their support for it. Political correctness can suck it!

As others have said, why the need for southern pride? I don’t recall anyone talking about northern pride or eastern pride or western pride.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the “south” in “southern pride” seems to be referring to the states that attempted to secede from the union. Why is there a need for a special pride in that particular group of states?

Does “Southern Pride” need a symbol? I mean anymore than Midwest pride, West Coast or East Coast pride?

Oh brother, is this a loaded question. Why do Dildos come to mind … ?

Okay, let me restate it, as many of us are clearly thinking along the same lines:

What does “Southern Pride” consist of once all references to the Confederacy, the slave-economy antebellum era and ingrained racism are removed?

Replace the racist flag with a surrender flag.

“The South Shall Surrender Again!”

Cool flag.

Doug
