Okay, as a note I do plan to go to my doctor and ask about this asap but I was wondering if anyone here might have any clue as to what this could be.
Basically I’m bleeding, it’s about the middle of my cycle and my period is a couple weeks away. My body is reacting vaguely like my period, faint cramping etc only add in a little nausea. I have a cold on top of that but I don’t think it is affecting the rest too much except to make my whole body feel drained.
Would anyone have any ideas what this could be? And ask questions too if you think it may help… anything too private I’ll probably refuse to answer but maybe someone can help me!
[sub]Disclaimer: I will not take anything said here as biblical fact I am going to see my doctor soon but I won’t be able to for a few days at least. I can’t seem to google anything up that would seem reasonable and am curious what others may think it could be.[/sub]
Might just be ovulation. The symptoms of your menstrual period and ovulation can be quite similar. I’ve been fooled many a time. Hope you feel better soon.
OF - it sounds like plain old breakthrough bleeding to me - many women get it when they ovulate, when they change birth control pills, if they’re on too weak a dose of BCP, if they’re particularly stressed out… etc, etc, etc. This is the most likely cause of mid cycle bleeding. (As opposed to miscarrage, or pregnancy.)
It’s typically not something to get too worried about, but I would go to your Dr. all the same, just to make sure.
uterine fibroids? But if you’re feeling like you do during a regular period, maybe your body is a little out of whack. Have you been stressed, losing sleep, jetlagged?
I had this problem as a teenager, every few months or so; the bleeding wouldn’t stop but it was never heavy or “serious.” (Not to gross out any guys who are stupid enough to be reading this thread, but the bleeding was very similar to the mild spotting at the end of a normal period. The kind when you’re almost done with the damn thing.)
I would have normal periods within two/three weeks of this ending; I went to the clinic and was told that my hormones were out of whack. Two days of mild hormones didn’t stop it, so the gyno prescribed birth control.
Cleared up like magic.
I get it every once in a blue moon to this day (at the ripe old age of 24) but I was told that this kind of mild bleeding, every once in awhile, is rarely serious. (I am no longer on BCP.)
However, since you’re on birth control already, I’d add my vote that perhaps your dosage isn’t working for you…although one of my friends has endometriosis and this kind of “Pseudo Period” is one of her symptoms.
Curious sidenote: You still get cramps on your BCP? I have what I fondly call The World’s Most Obnoxious Cramps–the debilitating kind that call for the fetal-position-on-floor/cold sweats/vomiting, etc…and BCP wiped them out completely. (I smoke, so I don’t take BCP anymore…I know, where are my priorities…but I loved that side effect more than anything else.)
If you’re on BCPs, breakthrough bleeding is a sign that your dosage is not right for you.
Very important: if you have breakthrough bleeding like this, DO NOT rely on your BCPs for birth control. This is a sign that the dosage isn’t right for you and that they’re not being effective.
I’m with Alice here. Sounds like breakthrough bleeding, which can be brought on by stress, et cetera. Let us know when you’ve been to the doctor, and take care of yourself.
I don’t know what’s up with you, Obsidian Flutterby, but I managed to wake up in a pool of blood this morning. I HATE HATE HATE it when my period decides to start in the middle of the night. At about 3am, I got up to pee. Notice period. Dammit, ok, no problem, grab a tampon. One o’ the normal “period is starting” light type tampons. 8 am, I wake up in a pool of blood. OK, not really a pool, but you get the idea. I jump out of bed, Mr. Athena does a cute lil’ squirmy sleepy thing and say “time for coffee, hun?” and I scream back “NO, it’s TIME FOR BLOOOD!” and run into the bathroom. I had to take a freakin’ shower it was so bad.
Amazingly enough, there was no blood on the sheets. I now know why women have pubic hair.
Did you just start your pills? I was told that I might experience breakthrough bleeding in the first 3 months. Did you skip the placebo week to not have your period? I was told that that could increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding.
I’ve been on these pills about 6 months now, no real problems since starting them till now.
Yes, I still get cramps. I’ve always only gotten them rarely ie every few months and that’s still the way it happens.
I always use condoms and never rely completely on the pill, as I am single at the time and don’t want to catch anything.
I will be going to the doctor soon… probably not for a few days though as I said before. I have to work etc and make an appointment. I’ll let you all know when I find out.
