What celebrities would fit in best (or worst) with the culture of the SDMB?

Thomas Paine, I think, would be a popular poster.

I also think that he’d have public meltdowns about once every three months, and Pit threads directed towards him continually. But he’d be awfully popular all the same.

Robert Fulghum would be good. Kinky Friedman would be great!
Don Imus not so much.

I think Adam Carolla would be good, if he can type as fast as he rants.

I think that its unfair that I cant nominate Squidward,he’s as "real"as any dead person.

Also I nominate Ian M.Banks and Pterry.

Stephen Fry.

I’m imaging the Phelps clan. And we thought Jack Dean Tyler was a one-note poster

Squidward my @ss!
OPTIMUS PRIME!

I assume you mean they’d be among the worst at fitting in. I can’t imagine Phred getting past a week even as a guest.

The trouble is that he’s almost functionally illiterate. He can read and write, but like Toonces the cat who could drive a car, just not very well.

Do we have any celebrities here? Obviously there could be some that don’t reveal themselves (I don’t think I’d be able to resist, but I’m not famous).

I hope Anthony Bourdain never joins. I’d get myself banned by harassing him about what a dick I think he is.

Someone possibly below the celebrity radar, Adam Busch. He could bask in the Whedon/Buffy worship to begin with. I’ve also seen his band (Common Rotation) a couple times. Something about the songs (who else does a They Might Be Giants cover) and on-stage banter makes me think he has the right sort of wit to join in here.

Good:
Tom Hanks
Spider Robinson
James McMurtry

Bad:
Camille Paglia
Hunter S. Thompson
Norman Mailer

Weird Al Yankovic has admitted to lurking here. There was a thread about it, but I can’t find it cause search is off.

How about me? I’m a legend in my own mind.

We have a member named jumblejim who wrote a staff report on Gerge Reeves, his suicide and the movie Hollywoodland. In real life he is Jim Beaver. Doesn’t post much or at all. The only posts I remember are replies to his staff report. Can’t verify of course, no search.

Phil Plait used to post here but does not any more.

I think he and Sarah Silverman would probably get banned. As would Howard Stern.

Why Thompson?

He’d be classic in the BBQ Pit.

Best: Larry Gonick.

And seconding George Carlin.
Worst: Bill O’Reilly. (He couldn’t cut anybody’s mike!)
