Yep reprise I TOTALLY understand that! I’m just pissed off with people pointing out the obvious. Of course people with 2 autie kids know about respite care! I don’t use it because my parents pick up the slack but it bites my bum to see someone assume that Euty wouldn’t know about it. I’ll be honest and say that most respite care would do my kids more harm than good so I don’t use it for that reason.

Respite care is a fucking pathetic band-aid which doesn’t fix the underlying problem.
And that sucks.

It is when a trained person comes in to relieve the care giver for a while.

It’s care offered in the home or offered in a group setting or offered in someone else’s home to give the parents of kids with special needs a break. It’s often not very flexible and or the parent doesn’t necessarily get much say in who offers the care.
With autistic kids, often the disruption after the kids come home can be more anguish that it is worth. You might get 2 hours off and then spend the next 48 hours settling the kid back down.

It was obvious that your heart was in the right place, but consider that telling someone with self confessed self esteem problems to get a pity fuck might not be the best way to express it. Besides, look at the response in this thread, Euty dosen’t need a pity fuck, he’s got legions of fans.

In a funny (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) way, perhaps this thread has opened a window for Euty which he wasn’t aware of before.
He now knows that there are enough people out there who care and who have walked in similar (if not identical) shoes that he doesn’t have to “settle” for a couple of hours here and there of inadequate respite care. He now knows that there are homes within this community where himself and his children can go and be welcomed and nurtured and loved for as long as they need it.
My only regret is that it took a troll for Euty to know that. The rest of us have known it all along.
I never once thought that trolls could achieve good, but it seems that in this case - at least - one has.
I now have a new mantra, thanks to Euty:
Rolls off the tongue nicely, and concatenates well. And it’ll help me think of Euty when I’m stressed and realise my life is damned good.
