What D&D character would you choose to be?

I’m writing a Neverwinter Nights mod based on the Straight Dope community, for distribution only to NWN players who post here. The mod is loosely based on the nations found at NationStates’ Sea of Cecil, as a background. The denizens will be named as posters from the Straight Dope.

I’m asking for people to volunteer some ideas. Specifically, what D&D character or monster would best describe you- for example, DreadCthulhu would be easy- especially with the Illithid models I just downloaded from CODI. He would be a giant mind flayer, a monster, at least a level 20 Outsider. He lives underwater in a great sunken city, and is dead and dreaming- waiting for the moment to be right to recalim the Earth. He has many lesser monsters and insane characters to do his bidding.

What I could use is a description of the poster’s character, the place where they dwell, any other places they could be found, if they have pets or companions, what treasures they would have on them and in their lair, and what typical dialogue they would have when met.

I will make the mod available when I have a playable version made.

Damn, I’m kinda tempted to break out NWN for this.

Ryujin would be a lord in the Vetinari (Discworld) mode. Or, failing that, a master ninja. He’d probably run a small city with an iron fist, have a ruthless, well-trained guard force, and tolerate no dissent whatsoever. He’d live in a manor house-type house full of traps, secret passages, and a dungeon for torturing dissidents. Class would probably be a Rogue/Thief/Assassain type. Secret treasure stashes would be all over and it’d be just about impossible for anyone but a master thief to get in and out alive. Outside of town would be beautiful wilderness areas since, for some odd reason, I’ve wound up with very good environmental policies.

Here’s my nation, if you need ideas. Note to mods: this isn’t one of those games where I get stuff for people clicking.

You can just use my current Ranger character… a half-elven ranger with two longswords, a black bear fur cloak, and studded leather armor.

Since he’s developed a severe phobia of crowds, he’d most like be encountered in the wilderness, hunting hobgoblins. He has a very short temper and he cannot read or write. He gets especially angry if he is his illiteracy is mocked, and it doesn’t take much for him to think you are mocking him.

He doesn’t carry much loot. His only valued possession is a +1 longsword, and he carries about 75 gp at the moment. Oh, and he wears a pendant indicating he’s received a blessing from the FR goddess Chauntea.

Well, since my SDMB name comes from an old character of mine, I’ll just describe him.

Amir Ashtar Bel Akash is from the southern nation of Zakarah (sp?). He is a paladin of the God of Knowledge, Zahn. He used to be a graverobber, but a freak magical accident involving what later became his holy avenger caused a gem from the sword to be fused into his arm. The gem acted a tracking device, leading him eventually to his sword, Breaker of the Ninth Chain (anyone who ever played the Geomancers adventures will be familiar with this weapon). His scores (I rolled fantastically) were as follows:

Str: 18/88
Dex: 9
Con: 16
Int: 14
Wis: 16
Cha: 17

He became a paladin in an attempt to make up for his grave robbing days. He does whatever he can to avoid a fight, but has no problem jumping in with his two scimitars if need be. When he finally got a hold of his holy avenger, he went to one sword and a Shield +3. He wears studded leather with his holy symbol engraved on his left pectoral, and a helmet with a drop down visor, which he only puts down when he’s about to enter the fray. He also keeps a journal of his adventures, which he plans to develop into a book when he retires.

He died saving the world.

Shame NWN doesn’t support Wild Mages or the Jester kit from BGII.

A human 16/4 rouge/fighter (str 10, dex 18, con 10, int 14, wis 8, chr 10, or thereabouts) . Specialise in twin rapiers (all the usual feats), pickpocket, use item and taunt. His two swords are called Stabby and Slashy - they are completely ordinary except for their poorly engraved names and shiny apperance (3’ light radius). He’s poorly dressed in random clothes, and does not believe in the myth of "clothes that clash’.

Never attempts to disarm traps, but wades through manically, using his twin rapiers to deflect blows. Also bashes locks open by stabbing the locks repeatedly.

Is chaotic neutral, even up to the point of backstabbing fellow party members because he’s unwilling to support unsustainable pillaging practices. Infact, he later gives the loot back after profiting off short term betting scams, so others may pillage them in the future.

Or you could just put me in as a little mouse that randomly attacks people as a rouge and causes confusion upon striking.

Zanshin is a worshiper of Mystra who dwells in a small house built just outside (pick your town here). He hails from the Silver Coast originally and was born to a family of traders specializing in silver and silks. His sorcerous gifts were apparent at an early age, and his parents quickly tired of his creation of ghostly noises and animation of small household objects during his teething period. Although his magical skills were inborn and not learned as a wizard’s are, his parents packed him off to Waterdeep to study with the Sages of the Star, a cloister of Mystran clerics. During his studies with the Sages, Zanshin began studying to be a cleric of Mystra, and developed both his inborn sorcerous skills as well as his clerical might. At the age of twenty-seven, he moved to (town) so he could focus more energy on his worship of the Lady, as well as on developing his own inner powers. He dwells outside the town in order to have solitude for his studies and meditation.

At the time of the campaign, Zanshin is a Clr5/Sor8. His familiar, Tobias, is a sparrowhawk who can often be found cadging snacks at the local pub (and is therefore a somewhat tubby sparrowhawk). Zanshin is friendly but somewhat restrained. He will be happy to aid good characters with a word of advice or a tidbit of knowledge, but will refuse to aid those of evil intent or action. His sorcerous spells concentrate on transmutation rather than evocation or abjuration.

He owns little of true value aside from a vest of protection +2, a quarterstaff of striking, a wand of lightning bolt (8th level caster) and a ring of mind shielding. His total net worth is probably 50-75 gp maximum, only 10 of which would be carried on his person (the rest buried under a fire-trapped flagstone in his bedroom).

Hmm… let’s see…

Plays Wild Mages, Jesters…

Plays characters completely out of class…

Chooses Chaotic Neutral alignments…

Completely antisocial, even with own party mates…

Misspells rogue “rouge” consistently…

The only thing missing is his Lollipop Guild membership card and a song about deceased malevolent witches of the orient.

Bippy the Beardless
LG Dwarven Fighter (decesed, stats roughly from memory)
Lvl 6
Str 13
Dex 11
Con 16
Int 9

Chr 12

Was originally Chaotic Neutral, lost beard arguing with hignlevel NPC wizard. Converted to LG on his life being saved by a Lawful Good player cleric. When CN alligned was incredibly cowardly, and shameless about it, now LG tries to live up to the standards of Paladins in the party, but sometimes reverts back to cowardice.

Equipment, Large Hammer +2, Chain Mail, Shield +1,
Ring of Elemental Control (Fire) which is about 85% understood.

Met his end on the blade of a Reaver (Anti Paladin) wielding an Unholy sword.

Just make me an NPC blacksmith. That’s right, Miller the Smith. If you have a mill anywhere in the mod, name the guy who runs it Smith the Miller.

OK, I’ll own up for that one. :smack:

Just put me in as an eccentric professor/mage hidden in a tower surrounded by odd trinkets of no particular value to anyone other than an eccentric professor/mage. Among said trinkets, include about five and a half handspans worth of surprisingly lightweight and strong string, a table that things have a tendancy to slide off of, and a bottle of some mysterious powder labelled “thiotimoline”.

I’m pretty much a jumbo-sized Halfling Bard, IRL, so that fits.

Just to give more detail - Halfling Bard, with a travelling band of performers (not really me, but what I’d want to be doing. ^__~). Fond of really bad jokes.

I like what I see so far. I can grant most of the status that your characters claim, with the caveat that you provide details- if you have a stronghold or lands, other specific magic items, special henchmen or pets/familiars, and I’d like you to add any details I can use for dialogue. For example: do you insult someone on sight, or greet them jovially? Do you have anything interesting to say, perhaps a story to tell at the inn over a mug of ale?

The starting area and center of the world will be the capital city of Cecilia. There will be various landmarks around the city, such as the Pit, Hotel MPSIMS, the Great Debate Arena and of course Cafe Society. The Pit will be a hostile environment where combat on sight is common. The Hotel and Cafe should be areas where quests begin, and most of the NPCs I use from this post will be found here as henchmen. I’m still open to ideas about the other forums. (fora?)

The best thing I’ve found about NWN is that if it doesn’t exist in the game, you can generally find a script that someone wrote to do it, or a new model is made for it. I want wild mages too; I’ll look into it.

If you would like to send me more details, my email is below or post a link in this thread. For you Discworld fans I will be downloading the available Discworld modules; someone has done a lot of the work as far as I can see.

I will post the address to download the module when I have enough written to release the first version. It should be a matter of a few days. I will keep adding material as I get it; if I get enough interest I may set it up as a persistent world (always online.)

You don’t have to include my girl, but…

She’s a female half-orc monk with barbarian tendencies.

She’s smart, but insults people within five minutes of meeting them.

She carries a +4 Vorpal Longsword, but can’t figure out why.

She never wears shoes and scoffs at those who do.

She loves halflings, and protects them like children, and she loves anyone with musical ability as it allows her surcease from her tendency to rage.

Unfortunately, my SDMB persona is based on my being a Son Of Ether. The following is the result of attempting to convert a Mage The Ascencion concept to NWN. NOTE-Though I have a copy of NWN, my computer can’t run it. As a result, I’m not too familiar with the rules.

This is tough. In MtA terms, Doc has a 5 in the mind sphere. I was going to specialize as an Enchanter. But a quick look in the manual reveals, that would make Doc unable to cast illusion spells. Plus, IMHO some spells which should be enchantment (scare, fox’s cunning, owl’s wisdom, fear) belong to other schools. Is it possible to make him high level but only give him those spells which are mental in nature?EG Feeblemind is listed as a divination spell but is mind affecting.

DocCathode-
Mage (obviously)
Chaotic Good.
Level- 18?
Doc is human. Spending so much time inside has made him somewhat pale. He has a goatee and a head of hair which makes it appear that he’s been standing in a hurricane. He typically wears a high-collared laboratory smock and a large pair of bizarre goggles.
Doc spends most of his time performing strange research in his lab. For a small fee, he will happilly instruct characters of good alignment. He will occasionally join such characters on quests to kill powerful evil spellcasters. Doc also spends time teaching the village’s children and performing small magics for their amusement.

A female elven (I’m only 5’3" IRL) ranger with Point Blank Shot, Far Shot and Precise Shot. Of course.

Funny thing is, in every fantasy RPG, I’m a melee fighter 9 times out of 10. I NEVER pick the bow and I rarely use spells. But hand me a gun, and I’m suddenly Annie Oakley.

If you wanna do one based on my screen name, a centaur NPC would be cool if you could swing it. Otherwise, my last character was a female half-elf CN Druid with a penchant for giant spider companions and preferred to conjure monsters to fight her battles (or take the heat off at least).

Summon, not conjure. :smack:

Oh, she is so going to hate me…

Ranger, easily. He’s the real competent guy in the bunch, even if he is a pretty-boy blonde. Though Thief’s invisible cloak was also cool, and Acrobot had some good moves. Just keep me away from Presto and Paladin, the two dinks…

What?
