Now that the year is almost over, I think it’s time for us to brag a bit about what we did this year. Here’s my list:
[ol]
[li]I lost 30 pounds.[/li][li]I finished my associates degree (finally!).[/li][li]I moved out of my dad’s house and got my own apartment.[/li][/ol]
What sorts of things did you accomplish this year?
I cleaned much out of my life, including clutter and bookshelves (THAT was the hardest task).
Lord Ashtar, I think I found some of your lost weight this year.
We moved the office from a hole-in-wall basement apartment to a never-been-used huge downtown building. The work involved from buying the building to fixing it up and moving was staggering, but it was well worth it.
Hmmm, let’s see:
[ul]
[li]I expressed interest in and was selected for a major, multi-year project at work that kicks off July 1. I’m nervous, but more than that, I’m ready to kick the tires and light the fires, big daddy![/li][li]I finally got around to picking up Halo for the Xbox (long-time Xbox owner, never could see the hype surrounding Halo. Played it, finished it, and while it was a good game, I still can’t understand the hype…)[/li][li]I fell in love.[/li][/ul]
Crikey, how could I forget? I also started an exercise program and, with the exception of the past couple weeks, I’m paying attention to my diet. Down 18 pounds so far; I’ve got a long ways to go, but I’m in no hurry. I didn’t put it on overnight, it’s not coming off overnight. Still, I’m happy with the changes I’m making, and I know I’ll look and feel better for it.
Got laid off from my dead-end job after the company went under; applied for and received a dislocated worker’s grant to go back to school; and have completed three months of a year course to become a massage therapist! In the course of which I have also faced a lot of personal issues and grown a bit. Overall, a pretty good year!
This year I:
1:Graduated high school
2:Got my driver’s license
3:Joined the Air Force
4:Completed Basic
5:Graduated Survival School
6:Gained 20 pounds (I didn’t really want that to happen, but since it did, I’m going to act like I did.
It was a busy year for me.
A damn good year. A little too good.
- A fascinating trip to India
- A couple of decent publications
- A humungous grant to study something important with people who might well be helpful
- Extended the house
- Got driveable cars
and, by far the best - A lovely daughter.
Not a darn thing. Thanks for rubbing it in.
Not necessarily in chronological order:
[ol]
[li]Sold my house[/li][li]Narrowly avoided Chapter 7[/li][li]Finished a 2nd Bachelor’s degree[/li][li]Did some volunteer work[/li][li]Lost 30 pounds, and regained 25 of it[/li][li]Really “got into” my new job, and enjoyed the hell out of it[/li][li]Became comfortable with life in SE Virginia[/li][li]Met FairyChatMom, dbygawdcapn, and RTFirefly in person[/li][li]Rode my bicycle a lot (for the exercise)[/li][/ol]
I only did a few things, but I’m happy about them:[ul]
[li]Started a Toastmasters club at my company in late January, and have been running it successfully since then[/li][li]Started graduate school[/li][li]Finally – finally – started eating better. Now I just need to start exercising . . . [/li][li]Joined the SDMB [/li][li]Made a new friend (not so easy to do when you’re 30-something!)[/li][li]Realized that I’m ready and willing to start dating again (seems mundane and pointless, but was a happy “lightbulb moment” for me) [/ul][/li]I think that’s everything.
- Got fired from my job of three years.
- Got another job for a lot more money
- Hated that job, and quit
- Got another job for even more money
- Liked that job so much, I went and convinced them to hire a couple people from the company that laid me off in #1.
So, over the course of the year, I’ve had a 45% payraise.
—bought a house
—had a baby
—got a new (and improved!) job
Not bad for a year’s work.

Hey now! Time spent on the SDMB is time well spent, unless of course you’re just messing around in MPSIMS.
Hey, wait a minute…
Accomplish??! I was supposed to accomplish something? Now you tell me! :smack:
Ø Worked my way through a very traumatic issue that’s been haunting me for 27 years and made peace with it. I think I’ve seen the last of the depression that it’s caused off and on for years.
Ø Grew even closer to my husband of 18 years than I thought possible. Thank you for sticking with me honey ::smooches::
Ø Sat back in awe at the incredible children I’ve been blessed to have in my life.
Ø Have been blessed with the addition of another child in our family through the foster care. We’re not sure how long she’ll be with us, but we’re glad she’s here!
Ø Stumbled into the most wonderful non-profit to work for and am so grateful for my job. They will have to pry my cold, dead body from my desk before I leave.
