Later today we’re going to buy the next 2-4 days’ worth of food and ingredients to feed 5 adults and 7 small kids. Times a couple of feasts and a lot of ordinary meals. Gonna be quite the ginormous haul.
At least we’re waiting to the last minute to do this.
I got a Glenlivet 12, Glenfiddich 12, Bunnahabhain 12 and Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or Sauternes Cask Finish. That’s enough for a nice couple of drinks for Xmas and New Year’s Eves without overdoing it.
I bought a handmade woolen skirt on etsy. For myself. My husband bought a load of foam board as he is insulating his shop (he’s the kind of guy who starts insulating when it’s cold enough to bother him and not before).
We are only doing one feast this Christmas and that’s just latkes and sausage and homemade applesauce and homemade goat yogurt and sauerkraut that we have every Christmas Day. The feasts already happened. Now there is just church (two services tomorrow because in the morning it’s Advent and then the vigil of Christmas starts at sundown). Am singing Lo How A Rose Ere Blooming as the soprano in a quartet on Christmas Eve. Looking forward to it.
Well technically it was yesterday because it’s only 6.45 am here and nothing is yet open, but I went to the fishmonger to buy some prawns (shrimp) for Christmas lunch.
Now they had small prawns for around $35 AUD per kg, but I opted for the steroid-enhanced prawns for $50, and bought two kg. Along with baked ham and various salads, that should be enough for lunch for 4 x pax.
I had bought daughter a pair of very expensive alpaca socks ($27 ) at the market - from a local alpaca farmer. So today I bought her a second matching pair, because who gives one pair of dam socks for a Christmas present ! Then I went to lunch with a friend to Applebees - their Christmas special steak and shrimp was no more, so we got something else. Since we were already there.
2 kilograms of ice cream, for tomorrow’s Christmas celebration
Assorted sweets, nougats and marzipan, ditto
Enough Leek, Green Zucchini and chicken pies to avoid cooking anything today and tomorrow.
1 Jar of Chucrut
Half a kilo of cheese.
2 “prepizzas” (basically pre-made pizzas that need only the cheese mentioned in the previous line and about 15 minutes in the oven to be real pizzas)
About 8 pre-made (you only need to cook them) “Milanesas de Soja”, (breaded soy?, basically the soy equivalent of a real milanesa, which is breaded beef steak)
