What do fellow Dopers Sound Like?

Okay lads and lasses, bear with me here.

I’ve never been one of those people who “pictures” people they talk to on the web. I used to, but I think maybe i’ve been bumming around on the bloody thing too long now and have kinda got used to this new non face-to-face media.

One of the things I can’t seem to shake, however, is the occasional urge to assign “voices” to people. Although i can’t visualise them, when i’m reading their post i can’t help but hear it in a certain voice in my head.

Chances are these voices bear no relation at all to what people actually sound like, but they just seem right somehow.

so, for example

Jonathan Chance: Jack Palance in “City Slickers”

Coldfire: Rutger Hauer in “Blade Runner”

XJETGIRLX: Eliza Dushku in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”

Everton: A young Paul McCartney

Manhattan: God in the “Ten Commandments”

So i’m wondering if anyone else out there is guilty of this from time to time and if so, who do you think sounds like who.

hell, maybe i’m a complete loon and am the only one who does this, but even if you don’t do it then what accents/voices would you give to different Dopers?

Kn*ckers sounds like the flibberdygibbett sister in Joe Vs the Volcano (played by Meg Ryan)

Tars Tarkas sounds like Elmer Fudd on speed.

Viva los twages sounds like Tom Brokaw, which is very weird 'cause she’s cute.

Aesiron sounds like Beaker from The Muppet Show.

Carniverousplant sounds like Robert Plant as a solo artist, not during the Led Z years.

Polycarp, oddly enough, sounds like Speedy Gonzales, I don’t know why.

Achernar sounds like Scott Bakula.

oh yeah, Wearia sounds like Arnold in T2.

Urg, I’m hopless at these things, I don’t really picture posters or hear their voices…

I have been mistaken for Robert Redford in appearance only. It’s just because I have blond hair and am fairly tall. I could most probably double for the guy, especially in his earlier movies.

for some reason i’ll be devastated if he doesn’t sound like Rutger! :smiley:

and for the record i’ve always felt that Francesca sounds like a young Penelope Keith (One that i fear only Britdopers will get).

Well i picked up a hint of a turkish accent recently - but only briefly :slight_smile:

I think Garius sounds like an English Bernard Black.

And even though I’ve met him, I always read London_Calling’s posts in the voice of Terry Thomas.

London_Calling is an exception to my previously stated rule. I think he’s got to sound like Joe Strummer (RIP).

And I imagine that Francesca might sound like that American actress who played Bridget Jones. Except with an English accent.

If I had to guess then I’d go with Clive Anderson for garius, regardless of his penchant for all things Turkish.

Ooh! Who do I sound like?

The only Doper voices I hear in my head are Eve(Kathleen Turner), NoClueBoy (Keanu Reeves), CrankyAsAnOldMan (Bea Arthur) and Persephone (Edie McClurg).

I guess the only Doper whose “voice” I “hear” when when reading her posts is Eve. Sometimes they play in my head with the voice of Tallulah Bankhead, other times Bette Davis.

Go figure.

What do they sound like? Hmm…

Spoz sounds like a rocking musician (don’t know who) with a mild Australian accent and a mildly deep voice… I know that’s not very descriptive, but I’ve never been able to do the “oh, they sound like this character from this movie” thing. I’ll be able to view video clips of SPOZ anmd his friends at the weekend, though. (so I’ll see how accurate it is… at least through their drunken filtering haze)

Eve sounds like somebody with a really cultured, smooth English accent. I know she’s from New York and all, but that’s what I imagine her to be.

Other than that, I’m REALLY not good at this (like Tir Tinuviel). Apparently, I have the same thing going on as ShibbOleth… where practically everyone sounds like me.

So what do I sound like? (and no… I’m not going to direct Spoz to this thread… he’ll probably say I sound like a robot)

NoClueBoy sounds like Jonathan Frakes under the influence of a mild opiate.
