What do jobs look like to you?

When someone mentions a job to you, what sort of generic image do you have in your head for the kind of person that does that kind of job?

Scientist: Tawny-haired man with a bowl cut, thick horn-rimmed glasses, a long white jacket, and think veiny hands. (The hands are important for some reason.)

School Principal: A woman with long, peaked red hair. She wears shapeless dresses and large hoop earrings.

Police Officer: Young woman with her tight blonde hair in a bun. Has a skinny neck.

Screenplay Writer: Chubby guy with a sweat-stained shirt. Has a large nose and beat-up sneakers.

Fireman: Burly guy who wears blue, form-fitting T-shirts everywhere. His hair is cropped short and his jeans are slightly torn.

Coffee Shop Owner: Frumpy older woman with a lot of curly hair and big, puffy lips–but her smile is cheerful.

Theater Actor: A man with a disproportionately large chin, pronounced cheekbones, and messy black hair.

What sort of generic people live up in your head?

It’s funny. I took a screenplay class in college, and the teacher looked EXACTLY like your description, except for the sweat stains.

Hey! I’m a screenwriter and I look nothing like that. I mean, I haven’t had a screenplay produced yet, but if it’s gonna mean that I have to look like that to become a successful one, I quit!
