What do you always order in a restaurant if they have it?

My SIL makes a killer chicken and green chile stew-which I hope to enjoy again in a few months when I get to Albuquerque.

Hmm. I’m drawing a blank on that name, and less than a hour’s drive from you. Expand, por favor?

Sweetbreads for me. They are almost as rare on menus as foie gras, and the places that bother to have them usually make them well.

Add me to the list of people that has given up on French Onion soup at restaurants. When I make it at home it takes me 6-7 hours. Very few restaurants will be able to compete with my home-made, so I don’t bother.

If any Dopers here are going to be in the vicinity of Glendora, California, I’d recommend the French Onion soup at Flappy Jack’s on Route 66. It is stunningly good.
And yes, a good F.O. soup is hard to find.

In the Philly area: the General Lafayette Inn (also a micro-brewery) in Lafayette Hill makes a darned nice FO soup.

Escargot. Not many places have it, so when it is on offer I always order it.

Hamburger Hamlet has killer french onion soup.
