So I grabbed the first carton of the year a little over an hour ago.
I’d never had egg nog with booze before, so the first opportunity my boyfriend and I had to have nog together, he says, “I can’t believe you haven’t had it with brandy yet! That’s classic.”
I know you spike brandy, but I never knew with what. I picked up some brandy and swirled it in and…eh.
The following fall, I put a little Captain Morgan or Mount Gay in and I love the spiced rum flavor with the nutmeg…
My sister-in-law swears by a little Old Forrester Bourbon in it.
Brandy doesn’t seem to mix well with it…the rum is perfect. I’d had it with the Old Forester, which was also pretty good. I’m just such a fan of Mt. Gay and Captain in cider is my kryptonite…

Regular dark rum will do in a pinch, like when someone else has polished off the last of the spiced rum and it’s after closing time for the liquor store and you have to have some egg nog NOW… but otherwise, I will not settle for anything except Captain Morgan Spiced Rum.
Agreed! Take that brandy! I’ll be sure to tell my boyfriend to put that in his egg nog and drink it!

And, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE egg nog neat (I’ve only been of drinking age for 4 years, but have loved nog my whole life)…it’s just that when it’s 5 o’clock somewhere, I’m inclined to spill a dollop of booze or to into it!
Any liquor, hold the nog please. I have never developed a taste for it. It’s weird, 'cause I like all the ingredients. Maybe I’ll give it another go this holiday season.
