What do you plan on doing with your tax return?

sigh I plan on using it to catch up on bills .

A pleasant dillemma. If you go for the lasik, maybe the newfound clarity will mean the wild women will look less delicious.

I just finished filing federal and state. I usually try to work out my withholdings such that I don’t end up with any refund or amount due. Looks like I was a bit off this year, though.

My federal refund is $175.
I OWE the state $70.

So I’ll be blowing my overall refund of $105 as if it were free money, most likely.

There’s this thing called ‘direct deposit’ for paychecks that many (not all, I know) can get. Banks can throw a percentage or even a set dollar amount directly into a savings account with the rest going into a checking account*.

If you’re able to make do without that money per paycheck (which, obviously has been the case), why not have it go directly into your savings account instead of the tax man’s?

[sub]And the interest isn’t trivial, always. I have 5K of savings in an online bank. I only worked up to 5K this whole year (so I started with a couple hundred and put a bit in each paycheck). I got $255 in interest this year. $255. That’s not ‘nothing’.[/sub]

  • Hell, you can divide it up to different banks, too. My paycheck goes to two separate banking institutions and each of those have money going to separate accounts.

Mine won’t be much, so it will probably just get melded into the checking account and used to pay bills. The wife’s refund ought to be semi-sizable however. That we haven’t discussed yet. My guess would be some sort of capital outlay, like a new computer.

file a divorce.

I’ma buy me an armful of nickel candy!
