It was later discovered that much of wally’s material was not his own creation and obtained from other sources, and that his death was probably not real, either. Between the wally “putz” emoticon being used counter to board instructions (i.e. as an insult outside the Pit), and the controversy over Wally himself, the emoticon was retired.
Not retired, recycled. There’s a little Wally in every smiley.

I kinda figured.
I just wish there was a sticking-tongue-out smiley that indicated sticking your tongue out “nyah!” style and not the one we have right know which just looks like a cutesy giggle/smile. When I do

I never use that one, but I agree, the expression shown is not the expression intended by most who want to stick tongue out.
