What do you think of Sybaris?

Has anyone here been to a Sybaris? I’m curious as to your experience (well, not in detail  ) Just in regards to cleanliness, mostly. Anyone been to the one in Mequon, Wisconsin?

Thanks.

Mrs. Mercotan and I have been to that one there twice over the past decade. Enjoyed it a lot, both times. Very clean, very well maintained. We got the pool suite, but not the one with the upper story and the slide. The pool was great. Everything was great, except we really weren’t that used to water beds.

Nice mirrored ceilings, gas fireplace, CD stereo system, video system (it probably plays DVDs now). Sauna was good, the waterfall over the pool was delightful, the glass walls between the pool and the rest of the suite were cool.

We’d not hesitate to go again if it weren’t so far and us so damn busy. And the fact that our own master bedroom suite is almost as cushy. No pool, but both an indoor and outdoor tub, waterfall and a lake. And a nicer bed!

Yes, QtM, I’ve heard about your luxurious home on ?Lake Michigan?

I’m jealous, but I haven’t given up on the dream.

Anyway, thanks for the info. We’ll probably go next week to escape our home renovations.

When come back, post pictures!

One of my favorite stories from working at Wrigley Field involved Sybaris.

A quick set up, when I worked there in Security the ushers were either high school/college students or 71 year old retirees.

There I was middle of the game schmoozing with a couple of the ushers on the stairs leading to the skyboxes. One of the younger ones mentioned that he had gotten a reservation to a Sybaris and was taking his girlfriend. The elderly usher (God I wish I remember her name!) snorted and said in a disdainful tone:

“If I wanted to get screwed in a shower I could stay home!”

We just about died, this little white haired lady dismissing it like that

Oh my.

I’ve never heard of the place, so I looked up the Web site. My God, could it get any cheesier? Is the place actually nice? From the Web site, it looks like a spiffed up pay-by-the-hour hotel. And that music! That’s enough to make me vow never to get within a hundred miles of the place.

We call the one in Indy, the Syphilis, if that tells you anything.

Please take your lady anywhere but there. Even just a nice room in a hotel with spa tubs has to be better than the Syphilis.

When I think of the Sybaris, that baumchicky baum baum music comes on, and a guy named Rick Forte pops into my head. He has a moustache with no beard and a combover, and he wants me to sit on his lap. /scary dream sequence

Indygrrl, I am a lady. I’m also a cheapskate and these rooms are pretty cheap. Actually, what I’m looking for is a whirlpool tub for a good soak. We’re living in a construction zone with only a tiny shower and no kitchen, so I’m looking for some respite. Anything else that happens is just gravy. :stuck_out_tongue:

But I’ll pay more for the Hampton Inn here if it’s going to be gross. If I want a gross whirlpool, I’ll stop by the Bally’s.

This is going to sound chintzy, but try the Comfort Inn. My fiance and I stayed at one just out of convenience and it ended up having the BEST TUB EVAR. I think it was pretty dern cheap, too. The room was immaculate, and the towels were so bleachy fresh. I wouldn’t really expect the same level of clean from the Syphilis.

That tub, I swear if I ever make any money in this life, I will have a tub like that. It was big enough for three people, seriously. And the jets were powerful. We totally pruned ourselves in that tub.

Warning, you only need a capful of shampoo to make bubbles. More will fill the entire bathroom with them. But hey, that was fun too. Boy did we have a mess to clean up.

I heart the Comfort Inn.

(And no Rick Forte music comes on when I think about it. )

Sybaris is proud to present Liberator Shapes Bedroom Gear.

ewwwwwww. I don’t want to use someone else’s “bedroom gear” thanks.

Though, some of the rooms look like good honeymoon rooms.

Indygrrl, I’m glad you came back. I found a Comfort Inn in Jackson, WI with a 2-person whirlpool for cheaper than Sybaris. I’ve stayed at Comfort Inn and have found them, well, comfortable. So I think this might work. Also seems like it might be a good place to stay when I’m in Milwaukee.

Thanks!

Hey, we’ve stayed in tons of cheesy motels, and the Sybaris in Mequon is definitely a cut above them! Finely aged Cheddar, as opposed to individually wrapped processed American!

And beware some of the places that advertise the “two person” jacuzzi tubs, etc. We’ve found them to be ok if the two people are hobbits, but not so hot for normal sized Wisconsinites! I hope the Jackson Comfort Inn meets the standards of the one in Indygrrl’s experience.

Wherever you go, have fun!

Seriously, I think two people of larger size could be comfy in one of the Comfort Inn’s bubble tubs. We had room in there to spare.

My SO is barrel-chested, but he is short. I am also short. I’m petite, but normal sized (As I type that I realize that tells you nothing. I am 5’3, 130ish. He is 5’6, 180ish).

Now, if you both weigh 200 and are 6 ft. tall, you might have to take separate whirls.

Still, heed my advice about the shampoo bubbles. We seriously filled the whole bathroom because I didn’t think it was foaming up fast enough. There were so many bubbles, we had to scoop them out and fill the bathroom with them. It was fun though, and it smelled purdy.

I would be a little leery of any hotel that rents their rooms out in four hour blocks in the afternoon…

Sounds like the kind of place a high-priced hooker might take a customer, or a couple might go to if they didn’t want their spouses to know about it.

They market themselves as upscale romantic trysting spots, and frankly that’s pretty much what we got. The overnights can be a bit pricey, sometimes running $500 bux, so it is economical for couples to cut to the chase and focus on the fun in an affordable, romantically wanton way.

Hey, at least check out the website: http://www.sybaris.com/frameset_flash.html

What can I say? We really, really liked the swimming pool suites.

Hey QtM, don’t feel bad, you’re the only one in this thread that’s actually been there!

So, I decided to stay at the Comfort Suites in Gurnee, IL (about 20 min. away) and it was terrific. They said it was a 1-Person whirlpool and we both fit in fine, and we’re not small! AND it was only 66 bucks! Rather have that than a nice dinner any day!

We’re going there for hubby’s birthday, and probably again before it’s all over with (the construction).

Indygrrl, don’t worry about the suds, I wouldn’t even try a little for fear of what could happen. Sounds like your experience was traumatic :stuck_out_tongue:

No lie. Why don’t they cut the horseshit and just give hourly rates?

And come on. From those pix, it looks like eveything is covered in that gold/brown shag carpet. No thanks.

Not to mention that I’m leery enough of what fluids might still be on the bedspread of a normal hotel. This joint would likely skeeve me out no end.

Sorry. Didn’t see this:

 We did that too!

“How much should I use?”

“Well it says a capful for every such and so gallons.”

Eyes tub critically

“Fuck it. I’ll wing it.” Happily pours half a bottle

Man, it was like we had conjured an ancient suds monster from the deep.
