What do you think of this ring? Does it send the right message?

Oh, man, I’m so glad I don’t have to be the first person to bring up the goatse thing!

But yeah. (Or “butt yeah.”) She might not get the association herself, but I guarantee at least one of her friends will–at which point she’ll never be able to look at it the same way again.

Oh man, if he wasn’t kidding then we are all sooooo going to hell! Except maybe we’ll get points for saving him?

But yeah, same thought here, except the hands also made think of C3PO.

And people wonder why we got divorced …

It reminds me of the two American athletes standing on the podium with their fists pumped into the air at the Olympics.
(1970s Mexico City, I think?)

Is she an athlete? A civil-rights lawyer?

Well, I couldn’t see the ring, but I’m no longer wondering why the site was blocked from work.

As for sending the right message…well, that depends on what message you’re trying to send…

OK, I didn’t notice the goatse thing until others pointed it out, but I still think it’s creepy. My thinking was basically the same as Roderick Femm’s.

Damn, that’s what I was going to say. C-3PO as Goatse?

I had successfully erased goatse from my brain, so I can make no comparison to that, but it seemed like the hands were trying to strangle the heart or rip it to pieces. Find another ring.

(Okay, I’m finally going to ask: how do you pronounce “goatse”?)

Assuming for a second that you are considering this as a gift for someone, I think you should ask yourself what message exactly you want to send to her and then evaluate the ring. The ‘right’ message is not super clear, ya know?

Man, this thing has been popping up all over the web lately. I first saw it on Regretsy, and now every Failblog-type site and its mother is featuring this ring. Et tu, straightdope?

I say goat-see. YMMV.

I think you should buy it and give it to her, and make sure you film it and post the video for us to see. Pleeeeeeeeeze.

Goat-se aside, I hate it.

Yeah, but the rating is odd. It only gets a 31 in Child Safety (the whole site not just the goatse ring). I can understand Trustworthiness, Vendor reliability, and Privacy being dinged if the vendor were really bad. But in what way is that site unsafe for children?

Apparently I’m the only person left in the world who has not seen that image. I refuse to click on links just to satisfy my curiosity.

This ring gives me a better reason not to–I think it’s adorable, and I don’t want to have to think of something horrible every time I see it.

Most. Inappropriate. Gift. Ever. If she has ever seen goatse, she’ll definitely appreciate just how “special” you find her. You should not, under any circumstances, give that ring to anyone.

I would pronounce it goat-suh.

Binarydrone for the win - that’s exactly what I thought when I saw it.

I don’t mind wearing a bit of Cubic Zirconia (if that’s what the “imitation diamonds” are made of). But I buy my own jewelry.

However, this ring is “set in Platinum and 14k Gold over Sterling Silver.” Sorry, that’s a waste of good Silver. Which is not hard to maintain. But plating can wear off.

I agree this might be a whoosh. That design is an ugly update of the Claddagh motif.

After re-reading the OP and Googling “goatse ring” (which I did after I posted a link to the ring on my WoW guild’s web forum and was informed that a couple of folks had already seen the “goatse ring”), I’m now convinced that it was a whoosh.

Well done one, too! You almost made it, except for those meddling kids!
