What Do You Think of This Video (Father and Daughter Sing "Home").

This is to see if people have a similar reaction to this video as I did.

Home - Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Acoustic Cover (Jorge & Alexa Narvaez)

Cute, and somewhat touching, but by no means mind-blowing.

It’s cute, but I didn’t love it or feel emotional or anything. (What, me? Feel emotions? Ha.)

Well, I wasn’t so much “neutral” (as I voted) as I both liked and disliked the video.

The father is a talented guitar player and has a good voice. However, if he’s really whistling through his nose as he appeared to be doing, I change my vote to dislike.

The kid is just awful. I’m not saying she can’t get better as she gets older, but right now: ick!

I’m pretty sure he’s whistling through his teeth.

And no, the little girl can’t sing, she’s just chanting in a loud monotonic little kid voice; I quite watching after a few seconds.

Honestly, I think the little girl sounds closer to the original song than the Dad does.

But I would say dislike if only because part of what I love about Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros is how their voices sound. You take that away and it loses a lot.

I’m with Nametag. I’ve never understood why little kids singing tunelessly is cute, it grates on my nerves something awful. I turned it off as soon as the kid started braying. Hell, there’s even a song on the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack with the little girls singing that I skip right over, because I wavers into occasionally tonedeafness. Gack.

So…you haven’t heard the original song, huh?

Absolutely adorable.
It’s not an audition tape for a record contract - it’s a cute, homemade video of a father, with some musical ability, and his daughter, doing something together. I love things like this.

It’s a little kid singing with her daddy. What’s not to love?

What made the whole thing work is her applauding at the end. She thought it was good!

Regards,
Shodan

Loved it. So the girl doesn’t sing like Susan Boyle, who cares? It is not her voice, it is the earnestness with which she sings her part is that makes this so watch-able.

And I wish I could whistle like that dude.
mmm

Cute, but I agree with the others on the little girl’s voice.

I did not expect so many people to focus on the little girl’s vocal skills. She’s not trying to be the next Susan Boyle.

What I loved was the relationship between the father and his daughter. The girl is so confident and comfortable singing with her dad. She should win an award for the most confident person in a purple snowman shirt.

Meanwhile, the dad looks very approving and appears so comfortable with the little girl being herself. That’s probably were all her confidence comes from. Their’s nothing in the way the father looks or interacts with his child that says “you’re not good enough”.

The dynamic is so beautiful.

And that speaks for me as well.

Not to mention she’s only 3 or 4.

I agree with Lakai. Regardless of the girl’s vocal talents it is a touching video - and I say that as another person who is generally not fond of the sound of small children singing.

I think it is also impressive that a young girl that age can remember so many lines, and the correct timing, and keep her concentration during her father’s parts - most kids I know of that age would be fidgeting like crazy.

Also, Dad is kinda cute…

This, and it’s cute when she finally breaks into a smile, rather than looking so serious. Loved it.

That said, his whistling style freaked me out. Also he plays the guitar left-handed. Which is relevant to nothing at all, just something I noticed.

It’s cute and touching. Dad and kid seem to have a very nice relationship/dynamic. But I turned it off after 30 seconds, because I can’t stand kids singing. So count me in as “neutral.”

Super cute. I don’t like the dad’s voice, but the girl’s was fairly close to the original. Which is weird. I loved when she yawned in the last chorus. And I loved her facial expressions throughout.

I had to vote neutral although I’m not sure that is the same thing as how I really feel, which is indifferent. It is one of those things that you like if you like that kind of thing. I am glad for the girl that she has a father who spends time with her and seems to be encouraging. I just am not interested in seeing a video of it.
