What does your username say about you?

That I’m not very original, seeing as how I just took my last name and appended a few letters to it.

Mine says that my arms are heavy.

Either that, or I’m far too childish and nerdy for my own good.

My name refers not to a dog, as you might expect, but to another member of the canidae family canis latrans, the coyote.
My favorite cartoon character is, you guessed it, Wile E. Coyote, SuperGenius. So when signing up I thought I’d use the coyote’s latin name, decided it might seem a tad pretentious and went and looked up what canis latrans translated to in english.

Mine says that my name is Maggie, and I used to play Legend of the Five Rings.

I was pretty good friends at the time with the lead story guy (a lot of our mutual friends got turned into cards in the Imperial Edition) and he used to say that he was going to make me into a Demon of Cuteness. Never happened, and after a while we had a disagreement and parted ways, but by that time I had started either Oni no Maggie or **Maggie no Oni **as my standard online handle. (I couldn’t quite get the grammar right.)

My username is somewhat punnish on ‘Mostly Harmless’ The way the earth is described in the Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, according to the late Douglas Adams.

I realise that on many subjects, my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. Also, it’s a preventive measure against pitting; “I pit Mostlyclueless for being an ignora-… aw, fuck it.”

My user name, Shagnasty really doesn’t mean anything at all even though I know it sounds dirty and somewhat sexual. My best friend in high school called me that sometimes but it is a very old word at least from the 1800’s in the South probably of English descent and some much older people have sent me messages about it.

I am a mild prude compared to what it sounds like. I had an online stalker from here who found my family and sent some of my posts to my mother, none of which were bad at all but she mentioned at a family holiday party that I couldn’t attend and everyone got into an uproar and my family knows me by my alternate name here now. The big problem is that there are people registered as Shagnasty on other boards and sites and they really are bad. I explained all this to my mother but it has been a little awkward and I am not sure how many family members track me or at least think they are.

Well, since this question is about what it means rather than how I got it (which is a story in itself,) my name probably means I’m an arrogant tard. Back in the day, when the bulletin boards were just starting out, it was rare to not get the first name you wanted. Nowadays, you have to make it long and unique just to log in. Originally, I used “Hal,” but back then, if the name was already used, they would assign stuff like “hal06,” or "hal22) or something lame like that. Why would I want to be known as the 22nd hal that signed up on this board?

So, I wanted to be unique, to stand out from the hordes of other people who dared to use “hal” in their name. I switched to “da_hal” which means “the hal”, meaning only one, but some sites wouldn’t accept the underscore or hyphen for screen names. So, I ended up using this, and it’s been free pretty much everywhere.

When I decided to use my personal motto ‘When in the course of human events’, I found that Witcohe had been used about a million times as ID and an easy-to-remember password. I messed around with anagrams and Echowit popped out. I was in a Celtic thing at the time and decided it meant I was Bard-like, echo - wit (old English’ish ‘to know’) - passing on knowledge. Very cool.

Several friends have since informed me it just means I tell other peoples jokes.

Mine says that I’m a bomb technician. Well, technically, I’m an EOD technician, but I thought BomTek was more interesting and easier for people to understand. I also thought it was particularly clever and probably rather unique, especially since EOD is a fairly small military community, but I’ve been disappointed a few times when BomTek is taken on other message boards/internet email/&c. I’ve since decided that those BomTeks are probably mostly civilian police bomb squad members, but either way, it usually means that I end up modifying BomTek by adding my initials or something lame like that.

It means I have three more years to qualify for the Boston Marathon…or I’ll have to change my username to 3:30:59 or bust.

That I am using someone eases computer and and don’t want to be annoyed with registration and login. The software that does registrtion on these places where it really isn’t necessary for my interests is really annoying.

Clearly, that I’m teh awesome.

My username indicates that I was in a hurry to post my first time out and didn’t have time to bother thinking up a better name.

Also that I probably didn’t spell as gude as I might have.

And yes, it does grow in my garden.

I was going to start a new thread asking people to explain their user names, but this was already out there. Apologies for being a thread necromancer.

Dzero is the name of one of the particle detectors at Fermilab. It doesn’t say much about me except that I’m a wannabe science geek and like technical jargon.

My user name is meant to convey that I am a snowboarder named Bo.

My handle is the one I’ve used since there was an internet. It was a login at work about 1984, and I just keep using it.

It’s pretty obvious, but mine says I’m a guy who has a lot of accidents. Or is an accident. Either way works.

I seldom have accidents. (My husband says I am a carrier.)

My user name: I am the kite to my husband’s rock. A nice combination. However, since I am done with my professional work and am tiring of housekeeping I am so ready to travel. Waiting, waiting for Darling Companion to retire.

Anything can be bought…or at least rented…
