I love yer basic tuna sandwich, but just the thought of cooked tuna (usually in casseroles) makes me queasy, and the smell will make me run.
I hate the flavor of seafood as well. It tastes/smells too fishy AND slightly rotten to me.
Side salads. They are not food, they are rabbit-cage decorations collected into a bowl with some dressing poured over it.
Bacon
Yep. Never met an olive I liked. Put it on my pizza, and you’re dead!
Wasabi. I eat lots of Japanese food, but can’t stand wasabi. Actually, it’s mustard in general. Grey Poupon? I poop on it! The only mustard I can tolerate is French’s, and only on hamburgers and hotdogs.
Beets. All the rage, I know, and I thought it was maybe because I only had the canned kind as a kid. Nope. The freshest, most “wonderful” beat salad takes just liked the canned stuff.
Do you have a death wish?
I have also always disliked the “fishy” taste, but when I was living in Japan I found that fresh, raw fish didn’t taste as “fishy” as most of the cooked fish I’d had in the US. YMMV, but I always had to force down my mother’s salmon dishes but the first raw fish I ever tried was salmon sashimi and I thought it was fine. Not my new favorite food or anything, but perfectly tolerable. Although if it’s the notion of raw fish itself that bothers you then the possibly less fishy taste probably doesn’t help much.
I don’t like:
sweet potatoes
liver (except boiled chicken livers)
avocado
cilantro
Brussels sprouts
grapefruit
It’s too bad since some of these look yummy and are nutritious. I have tried them all numerous times to make sure I don’t like them, so don’t try the “eat it more often and you’ll learn to like it” line on me.
Hamburger with mayo. Inedible.
Rare steak. Cook my food, please.
Yes. Almost always, “banana flavor” has a bizarro chemical taste. Although I don’t find it nearly as repellent, “peach flavor” is apparently hard to pull off as well.
Top of my list:
Watermelon. I’ve given it “one more try” at least a thousand times- just as awful at 62 as it was at 7.
Cantaloupe.
Peanut butter. Coffee. Olives. Blue cheese. Hard boiled eggs. Liverwurst. Doritos.
I’m yet another coffee-hater. I can’t stand the flavor, and strongly dislike the smell. Some coffee-drinkers have tried to convert me with really good coffees, and they’ve smelled a little less foul.
Similar story for the smell of beer, but I’ve never actually tasted it, since I have an intolerance for alcohol.
Cheese
Mayonnaise
Cooked salmon. I love salmon sashimi, which I think tastes like smooth, meaty butter in a good way. Cook it and it acquires this nasty fish flavor and looses all the good textures.
i’m in the same boat. give me raw or cold smoked/cured fish over cooked fish any day of the week.
i also think grapefruit tastes like ear wax. i’ll try it once every few months, but i haven’t been able to ever enjoy it.
Salmon, lobster, shrimp – basically seafood except canned tuna and the mildest of white fishes.
Beer and wine
Mushrooms
Olives
Pickles
Tea
Salami
Sushi
Coffee
I dislike meat, eggs, green beans, fruit salad, peaches, cherries, blue cheese,
and crunchy granola bars which fall apart as you’re eating them and are almost devoid of taste. I like chewey granola bars.
Cilantro. Most people talk about cilantro like it’s a miracle from God and life would be incomplete without it. All I taste is soap, and it contaminates every single part of whatever it’s in with the flavor of Ivory.
Every thread like this makes me think more and more that I lucked out having ended up with a palate that allows me to enjoy virtually all foods.
I’ve never liked blue cheese, mind you. Maybe it’s an acquired taste that I could eventually acquire myself, but that hasn’t happened yet. The last time I had it, it was on a blue cheese bacon burger, and it ruined the meal for me. Okay, I also don’t much care for shellfish, but that’s it; also, I live really far inland, so getting fresh seafood is problematic.
