Amen. There are some foods I don’t care for, but I have had sweet sauces on some dishes that I could at least enjoy on a relative level. The rest are just foods that gross me out and I’d probably like if no one told me what part of the animal they came from. But I have no inherent taste-hate, and I’m glad of it.
I got some bad, undercooked salmon in my teens (everyone got barfing-sick, and this was in a woodstove, hand-pump, outhouse camp - yee-uck) and couldn’t stand the thought of it until someone gave me four wild salmon steaks in my thirties. I finally cooked them, very carefully, and… can’t get enough of the stuff.
Sushi!
Peas - they are the devil’s own boogers.
Cooked salmon – salmon sushi is okay.
Mushrooms in any way shape or form.
PB&J – Peanut butter is good. Jelly is okay. Just don’t EVER let them touch.
Mint - as far back as I can remember, I’ve hated both the taste and the smell. Awful.
Also, I’m not completely sure, I think it’s cumin. I tend to dislike pretty much everything in Mexican food and my mom told me that she thinks it’s cumin that I don’t like. Apparently, it’s in tons of Mex food?
Same here. It must be carbonated, altho some mineral water and “Smart Water” is OK.
I also don’t like raw onions, cooked salmon (I am with slightly askew & FlikTheBlue in that sushi is fine), liver, and Brussels sprouts.
I am Ok with the taste of coffee if heavily doctored, but the smell of fresh ground high quality beans is heavenly.
Lets see…
Eggs…hate the taste, texture and smell, though I don’t mind hard boiled eggs…
Apple pie
Any cooked fruit
Fruit in general
Hot dogs
Mustard
Pickles
Bananas…though I do like banana nut muffins/bread
Raw tomatoes…I do like spaghetti sauce and chili
Green peppers
Custard/flan
Sweet dinner entrees…I far prefer savory.
Gummi bears
Hard candy
Pudding…though I love mousse
Organ meats
Pork
I don’t like pickles.
I also don’t like sweet potatoes. Do those count?
Banana flowers! People from Asia (Filipinos, Vietnamese, Cambodians) love these things…why, I don’t know. My wife’s co-worker (Vietnamese) told her how to prepare them. You steam them, then peel off the outer layers…what you wind up with looks (and tastes) like shredded strands of an old hemp rope.
Also add peanut butter to my long list…yes, my mom said I was a very picky eater. Lol.
I totally agree with OP - Avacados are nothing but slime, and the same goes for guacamole. My wife loves the stuff but it just makes me gag.
I have serious texture issues when it comes to food. Anything runny or slimy just makes me wretch. These include:
Pudding
Jello
Any kind of fish, cooked any way - still fishy and slimy.
Split pea soup
The only way I can eat eggs is scrambled or an omelette. Any kind of egg that’s runny is just disgusting - gag city. And hard boiled eggs are wickedly bad - slimy white and eraser yolk. Awful combination - just awful.
Coconut
Several kinds of fruit don’t agree with me either.
Now here’s the ironic part :
I actually like cottage cheese. WTF?!
pop
pickles
beer
sour cream
olives (although I love olive oil)
:smack: I remembered beer and wine but not water. IOW, me too.
And add me to the cilantro = soap list. I’ve heard it’s genetic?
I share your distaste for avocados. I also hate bell pepper, sauerkraut, and raw tomato or onion. Cooked onion is OK with me, tomato sauce is all right, but chunks of tomato (raw or cooked) are not good IMO.
I’m also not a fan of sweet sauces on meat or other things meant to be savory.
With cooked vs. raw salmon, I suspect that it’s not the cooking itself that introduces the disagreeable flavors, so much as that fish used for sashimi is usually a lot fresher than fish used for cooking. You might still find fresh-cooked salmon appetizing.
No sushi for me (granted, I’ve never actually worked up the nerve to eat raw fish).
Some textures get to me, too. Can’t deal with soggy bread/pastry or undercooked ground beef.
Never met an organ meat I could choke down without gagging, and I dislike the smell of vinegar. If there must be some in a food, keep it to a minimum (but I do like dill pickles, but not sweet).
They have vegi & also cooked fish/shrimp sushi.
I feel that way about most organ meats but chicken fried gizzards are quite good.
Olives - the most vile thing I’ve ever tried to eat in my life. To me, they tasted like they were 99% salt, 1% nasty. I was told that they are an acquires taste, and that if I ate ten of them, I would then like them.
I choked down two before realizing thst I didn’t WANT to like them so much that I would gag down 8 more. Forget it. Never had one since. I’m talking about green olives here, not the black olives, which taste different to me but are just as vile.
Tomatoes- raw ones. I can eat them in certain forms… A slice on a burger, diced in a salsa or something… But a bite into one of those small, plum or cherry tomatoes in a salad can make me wretch.
But LOTS of people hate peas. In my experience they’re one of the most ferociously hated common foods there is. They don’t qualify.
