What goes best on saltines?

I do! I’ve asked this question to my husband and other people and they look at me like I’m cuckoo!

And they always broke randomly, never on the perforations.

Hummus. Contains fiber & good fats & tastes great. I have to restrain myself from keeping it in stock all the time, otherwise I’d eat too much of it!

All of the above! But when the star is the saltines it’s gotta be butter, chopped yellow onion and a dash of Worcestershire.

Since it’s Passover, I’ll toss in that most (not all) stuff that goes well on saltines will go well on matzah.

I just broke some matzah (or pl., matzot) into pieces, sprinkled with olive oil, shredded Parmesan, and a bit of garlic powder, and baked in my air fryer at 400 or about 10 minutes. Delish!

Matzot are good toasted in a toaster or in a toaster oven until they’re just light brown. They become very crispy when the water is evaporated. Spread with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar.

When I was a kid, my mother made creamed tuna with peas for supper every now and then. Rather than toast, she served it on saltines that were oven-toasted for just a few minutes.

It was called “Tuna Fish Wiggle” and makes my mouth water just thinking about it now.

Sounds tasty!

And note, for anyone living is a disaster zone, a couple cases (that is one of those long packs that hold five little boxes) and some Pnut butter (or sardines or both) is cheap disaster insurance.

Are you calling me weird? Saltine, butter, garlic sea salt, thinly sliced cheese of any kind. I only put salt on two things I eat, this is one.

I knew it wasn’t weird!

Ok. your dad was weird.

they still sell graham crackers that way …

EXACTLY. Where you could make a fancy decorative topping or just a squiggle if you felt like it.

Or write a coded message…

A thin layer of clear gelatin topped by a light sprinkling of corn flakes crumbs.

Mustard

Hamburger Helper mix

Is this one dish or three? Please talk me through this one.

This thread is really taking me back to snacks my parents would make when I was a kid (cheese and summer sausage, liver sausage, smoked oysters and cocktail sauce, and – yes – even butter/margarine).

Nowadays I don’t eat them very often, but if I do it’s au naturel.

No - those are best three toppings options to go on a saltine.

Odd choices, but I salute your adventuring spirit!

Butter AND peanut butter
peanut butter and a dash of Sriracha (It’s like salty satay, just amaze balls).
cheese (preferably old chedda)r and a variety of add-ons, salami, pickles, ketchup…
Cheez whiz
Dipped in raspberry jam right out of the jar.

You need King Oscar sardines packed in oil. They won’t be found at the dollar store places though.

Yes! that is the name of the little silvery ones! Thanks, I will get some of those! Thank you, there is a big difference in brands, and King Oscar are the best from what I remember. <3

Ok. The Hamburger Helper Mix has me baffled. Is this dry, right out of the box? Or after you’ve cooked the hamburger with the Helper Mix, i.e., the finished product? Question: will this work with hamberders?

Inconsequential, pointless side note: I’ve never eater Hamburger Helper. I’ve also never gone bowling. Or seen a Sylvester Stallone movie.
