What happened BRAVES fans?

The Mets just Shellacked you guys…taking two out of three in Turner field. That’s unheard of! Hey PUNHA…where was Lockhart tonight? What? No cheap ass squib hits? Man I love it!
3 down 16 to go! See ya in our house next week!

Now all we have to do is get the Yankees number.

I look forward to Shea.

2 out of 3, and both games one and two coulda gone either way. Big deal. Tonight the Fets beat up on a pitcher who hasn’t started in 20 months , and you missed Maddux becasue of a cut toe.

I wouldn’t move those NSYNC posters off of your wall to make room for the pennant just yet.

and “cheap ass squib hits”–Lockhart? Is that how they teach you to spell “Ordonez” in NY?

We’re here, making note of who started the trash-talking first.

We Braves fans kinda figured your Mets would have to find a way to make up for all those embarassing losses they’ve endured at Turner Field. After all, you can’t keep disappointing your loyal followers game after game, season after season…

I also look forward to the series at Shea. Don’t hurt your arms throwing D batteries and beer bottles at John Rocker, okay?

Silly Mets fan…

I will remind you, Rich, that we started out last year 5-6. We then won 15 straight and claimed the NL East pennant for the umpteenth time in however many years. And that cheap-ass squib hit scored a run, however much you dislike it.

So ooh baby. Y’all managed to figure out how not to lose in Turner Field. You go, girls. Congrats on not repeating the inaugural season of the Rockies. They didn’t beat us. At all.

Call me when you do something real. Like, say, winning the NL East.

WTF? Did you see the hits Rey got last night? Not cheap at all. Nor were the TWO that Reed got.

BTW, I really enjoy the cheap, lame-o excuses.

[whiny voice]“Well, Perez hadn’t pitched in a long, long, really long time. And wait till Maddux gets the boo-boo on his piggies all better.”[/whiny voice]

Face it, the Mets took it to ya in yer house. They were way better in game three. Live with it.

I know the season is a long one, but that’s why we savor every victory. This series doesn’t mean NY will win the pennant this year. But we did win this opening series, and if you don’t think that gives us at least a brief psychological edge, then think again. The Mets looked good these past three games – better than the Braves, IMO, and the outcome reflects that.

Oh, and that thing about the Braves being the team of the '90s? Yeah. Like Brooklyn was the team of the '50s. It don’t mean a thing if you don’t win the ring…

You’re a Braves fan, mouthbreather? Well, shut my mouth! I just might have to forgive you for being a damn Yankee, after all.

Come on down to the Gravity sometime. I’ll buy you a bottle of Iron City (yes, they sell it there) and you can clink it against my glass of 420.

The rest of you: the season is young. The Braves certainly were the Team of the Nineties, and just you wait: in due course they’ll be known as the Team of the Zeroes.
Eh, wait, that didn’t come out right…

I am so sick of the Braves and all of their fans. 95% of the people that like them, like them because they were so unbeatable in the mid-90’s. I have always been a fan of baseball, but I am not gonna stand for this. It was just like the Chicago Bulls, they were loved until they lost, then everyone hated em.

It’s OK, Rich, talk while you can. We in the upper echelon understand that you wannabe’s have to get in your jabs while you can, for the chance doesn’t come often. Enjoy it now, it won’t last.

As for the Braves, I figure 2-2 is a pretty good start considering our 2 best pitchers have yet to take the field. If the Braves can play .500 ball with an injured list like they currently have, well, the rest of the league should be scared.

Evnglion - I have been a Braves my entire life. I was often one of the 5000 people in the stands when the Braves stunk up the '70’s and 80’s. I remember Reed, Baker, Neikro, Hubbard, et al, and watched them play. I hope you don’t make a habit of judging a whole group of people based on the actions of a few. Not good form.

I didn’t watch the whole game, I wasn’t talking specifically about last night. I’m just talking about his overall plate presence. What’s he up to lifetime now, a buck ninety?

You can attribute a whiny voice to me if that makes you giggle. That’s fine. But facts are facts. A pitcher without a ML start in almost two years is going to have some rust. And boo boo and piggies…thats really clever.

That they did. I’m not in denial. I’m just saying that being “way better” in one game is not something that I would be getting all worked up about.

I guess I understand now. If we lost 95% of our games in Shea last year, I guess I’d get a bit excited if we finally won a pair too. It’s actually kind of cute.

Agreed, see my quote above starting with “That they did…”

And it means even less if you’re at home WATCHING who’s playing for the ring. That kills me. Fets fans always look to the Braves World Series record in the 90s

(and since we’re playing the whiny voice attribution game,)
[whiny]“You couldn’t beat them! You only have one ring in the 90s! You’re not the best!”[/whiny]

No, buddy, we’re not. The Yankees made us their bitch. I can live with that. I hope it changes this year. But you’re going to have to realize that the Mets are OUR BITCH. Live with it.

and Fiver, You’re on.

Evnglion:

Cite? I was there all through the 80s, chanting “This could be the year!” for America’s Team every spring, sometimes even into the summer, before it became painfully obvious that it wouldn’t be the year, and even then I kept cheering them on, because I’m an Atlantan, and because Hank Aaron was ours, and Captain Outrageous was, well, outrageous, but also ours. I didn’t care if they lost every game, and it’s just gravy that they’re winning now.

Sure there are some Johnny-come-latelys who’ve only seen the light since 1991. But 95%? Nay, sir! I say thee, nay!

(Slaps Evnglion with gauntlet and hurls it to the ground at his feet.)

One slight amendment. I predict that after this season, you’ll be saying “the Mets WERE our bitch.” Things change. Whether the Mets win the pennant again (got that? Again) this year or not, I’m going to be following their record against Atlanta very closely. Right now they’re 2 - 1. Three down, 16 to go. And I think a week from now, the Braves will really be feeling a hurt from the Mets.

Oh, go away, Evng. I was a fan when the Braves were 65-95. That’s the first season I remember at all. The next one, of course, was the World Series year against the Twins. But other teams I like have suffered just as much as any other team. And the Braves will be bad again . . . some day. Not like I’m wishing it upon 'em:)

Oh, and on behalf of my father, who’s been a fan since the 60s, go find someone else to accuse of being on the bandwagon.

Oh, and Dave, just remember who the Mets didn’t have to beat to win the NLCS.

I don’t deny it. That was a break for NY. Breaks are part of the game, and errors are statistics (after all, if Buckner had fielded Wilson’s grounder, there might not have been a Game 7).

Still, the Mets played with ferocity in the post-season and earned their victories over St. Lou and San Fran. You can “Woulda-shoulda-coulda” all you want. But on Monday, the pennant gets hoisted at Shea. Hmmm, lemme check my schedule, who are they playing that day? Why, heaven’s above, it’s ATLANTA!! You remember them, don’t you? They were the guys who were watching last year’s World Series on TV. Glad they’ll be at the NL champion’s home field to watch the ceremony.

Seriously, though, I’m glad you’re not a fair-weather fan. I consider them odious. Since I’m a Mets fan all my life, you’ll understand why. So I respect your loyalty and assume you respect mine. And this is fun, bashing each other’s favorite teams!

**Moderator’s note: **

Sigh. The Ump blinked. A flying bit of chewin’ baccy landed in my eye. A hurled beer bottle knocked my cap down over my nose.

This has evolved from gleeful trash talk into a pretty in-depth discussion of the teams and therefore back into IMHO territory. Since it really belongs there I’m moving it back.

Sorry for the confusion.

Don’t you get it yet??

The East is dead.

Long live the West!!!

Go Dodgers, Go Angels!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

Well…let me add something to the OP.

Looks like the Mets AND Braves will be battling for LAST place if we keep playing this way against the Expos and Marlins.

Sure. Mutual respect works for me. And I’d have to be nigh-blind to miss that the Mets are a force (however fiercely I hate having to admit it:)).

It’s most fun bashing when the other guy is losing, though!

I agree Punha…The Braves are a class act AND the team to beat in the NL.It sucks bashing when both our teams are losing.I wonder If I jinxed 'em?

It’s pretty sad when your weak hitting shortstop has a higher batting average than your 1-5 hitters.

Amen to that, Rich. What a disastrous weekend! Mets coulda had a decent place near the top of the heap and what happens? A freakin’ sweep! They played like a bunch of buffoons out there.

The homestand had better not be more of the same.

I’m still hurting.
