What happened in the Law and Order episode "Wager?"

It’s the episode where the victim was father of a baseball star was killed over gambling debts. Or something. I wasn’t able to pay full attention when it was on last night, and I’m hoping someone else saw it, or remembers it.

At first it seemed like the father had a gambling problem, then when I started watching it again, the son admitted that the father was only placing the bets on his behalf, and it sounded like the father was an innocent victim who paid the price for his son’s addiction. At the very end, the son was crying and apparently going to go to prison, and the ADA said that the victim was a bad father. I guess the son killed his father; but why did he do it? Were the debt’s the father’s or the son’s?

I don’t know if I’m thinking of the same episode (I thought the guy was a basketball player), but I recall that the father gambled away all the kid’s money. The kid killed him, but the whole story about betting on his behalf was to throw the investigation off. The father really did gamble all the money away.

Thanks. The other details match, so I’ll bet it was the same one.

“Wager”

IIRC, the father with a gambling problem tried to squeeze son money out of his famous son (whom, BTW, he had abandoned as a child and only re-entered his life when the son achieved fame in professional sports) and ended up dead at his son’s hands when he screamed “You OWE me!”

No wonder Stone didn’t seem sympathetic to the dad at the end.
