I was somewhat disappointed a while back to find no more issues of Impulse being made - to me, he seemed like a pretty cool concept in the Flash family tree.
But now I see in Teen Titans that they’ve gotten rid of his wicked cool costume to put him into that old, hideous Kid Flash outfit? But it’s the same Bart Allen inside? Why???
(mind you, I didn’t pick up the comic book when I had the chance, so I don’t actually know why)
A) The Kid Flash costume is one of the silver-age classics. Impulse’s was just a dull Legion during their “let’s all look alike” period costume. Seek help*
B) He was shot in the kneecap an issue or two back by either Deathstroke or Jericho in Deathstroke’s body and decided to become grim-n-gritty. He got the Kid Flash outfit and went to the library to read everything so he’d become smart and less…um…impulsive. Apparently even though it’s been stated over and over that “speed-learning” doesn’t stick in your memory, it is in this case. We don’t know why.
didn’t know the origin of the Impulse costume, but I still really like it. It’s a lot more flattering than the kid flash outfit anyway. So is he renamed Kid Flash for serious, or is that a history booksmarts thing?
Not real clear yet. The storyline just started, but given the history of recent Titans writers going backwards rather than forwards (why is Changling “Beast Boy” again, especially since he’s 21, IIRC?) it’s probably a long-term change.
Hey, that brings up another question: I thought he was already a part of Young Justice. Is he still with them, or did that group get absorbed into the new Teen Titans?
