I posted a topic with the title “Why isn’t Georgia’s flag controversial?” earlier this week (Tuesday I think). There were many replies and this evening I had an SDMB notice that there was another reply, but it isn’t there. I’ve done a search, which found two other threads, but not this one. Any idea where it went? (and why?)
I think Manhatten moved it to Great Debates.
As a matter of fact, here is the link

Oh gee, I started a great debate, eh? It occurred to me that it may have been moved and I checked MPSIMS and IMHO. In any case, I thought the moderators always posted in the original forum that they had moved a thread. Thanks.
I do. Unfortunately, the new software does not leave a locked copy of a moved thread behind in the original forum.
So I created a thread called Moved Threads. That’s where we have to keep track of such things now.
I’ve bugged the software developers about this, and they said they might include a locked copy of moved threads in future versions. In the meantime, sorry for the inconvenience.
There is actually a good reason to not keep a locked copy in the old thread: Under the old software, the URL for a thread was dependent on the forum it’s in. In the new software, each thread has an absolute address, which stays with it when it moves-- This thread, for instance, would stay threadid=26934 even if it were moved somewhere else. this is a Good Thing, because if someone links to a thread that gets moved, the links stay good. The downside is that you can’t have two versions of the same thread that way. It’s a tradeoff; personally, I like it this way.
Hmmm…not sure I follow you, but I’m not on here enough to have an opinion on it. The question remains: how do you know if your thread’s been moved? As I said, I checked two other forums, but it didn’t occur to me that it might have been moved to GD. After posting here and finding out, I did notice in an e-mail notification that I’d had a reply to it in GD. I don’t know about others, but I don’t normally read through the entire e-mail notification; typically I just note the topic, delete, and then check the forum I put it in originally. So, you either have to check all the forums, or save the e-mail notifications for awhile. (Admittedly, this situation does not happen often, so I don’t want to make a big issue of it – I’ll take your word for it that the new method is better.) Thanks.
Ummm. You posted it in GD, right?
A few posts above, in this Topic, the Moderator for GD, manhattan, he has posted the issues for the current situation, (06/09 9:11 AM), but he also notes that he has started a Topic in GD which he calls Moved Threads where he logs outbound Topics–those he has moved elsewhere. (He even hyperlinked it to make it easy to find).
If you click on the Moved Threads hyperlink, you will find that he indicated that on 06-08-2000 05:25 PM, he moved Why isn’t Georgia’s flag controversial? to the Great Debates Forum.
So, the short answer to
Is that in General Questions, you look for the thread titled Moved Threads and see if your thread has been mentioned/moved. (I believe that the moderators of the other Fora are trying to do something similar.)
Instead of keeping a thread to keep track of the moved threads, what if the moderator just created a new thread to replace the old one with a link to where it went and lock the new one?
The new thread could have the original name plus “(moved)”. Then just use the link as the first post. It doesn’t seem like any more work than updating the “Moved Threads” thread.

Manhattan: before I posted my last reply, I had hit “go to last unread post” and it took me to Chronos’ post, so I didn’t see yours before replying after chronos. I just went to GQ and didn’t see the “moved threads” thread. I did see it a few days ago (before mine got moved), but since this hadn’t been a problem for me, I didn’t go into it. Oh well,
thanks Man and everybody for the help.
