He died after complications from heart surgery, but what was the heart surgery for. He had bypass surgery only in 1999, and this seems like a very short time for him to have gotten clogged up again. Was it something else this time?
Simon, who underwent heart bypass surgery in 1999, noticed shortness of breath about four weeks ago and was diagnosed with a tear in a valve that controls blood flow into the heart. He underwent more than 8 hours of surgery Monday at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield to fix the valve and conduct a bypass procedure. But Simon developed what his cardiologist, James Dove, described as an “extremely rare” surgical complication in which circulation shut down to his intestines and he suffered multiple organ failure.
I dunno. One minute I’m listening to him sing about bein’ a dad, and next thing I hear he’s dead. Sheesh. How’s Art holding up, I wonder.
(That isn’t funny, is it?)
