got bit by a snake 2 times, ungrateful little wretch! AllI wanted to do was catch him and let him out of teh house
-Went to work, took the initiative to order materials before we ran out. Told the boss:* “I got bad news and good news”*. Told him the bad, then on my way out the door he asks: “so, whats the good news?” I sez: “I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance” Heh, I made a funny.
-Went to the local try-n-save and flirted with a cutey-pie.
-Typed on computer
I lost a friend, played bingo, ate lots of chocolate, went to class, took a fabulous nap. Really, it was one of the best naps ever.
–I programmed a Lego robot to play 2 different peals (patterns for church bells, I used to peal in college), in preparation for a demo for a computer club for kids I’m helping with.
–I visited a local elementary school and admired the big old school bell on display in the lobby area.
–Enjoyed hearing bells being played at nearby church while I was at work.
(Very bell-y day.)
–I discovered I really like Mama Michelina’s Budget Gourmet frozen homestyle macaroni and cheese. I have long been a fan of the shells with jalopenos and the wheels and cheese varieties, but had never tried the homestyle before, because it looked gross to me somehow. But it was really cheap, so I decided to be adventurous. MMM Tasty discovery!
–Felt tired when I got home, slouched around for a while, felt annoyed because I had no energy to even want to do anything. Forced myself to take a walk. The crisp air and little bit of exercise did a world of good, and I felt much more energized afterwards.
Today I
–had a really nice early-morning walk, yay for fall weather
–spent the entire morning at the park, hanging out with a friend + kids, throwing acorns into the creek, and generally wearing myself and the kids out
–met an opthamologist and her SAHD husband and their very cute kid and became friendly acquainances, possibly future friends
–got that baby quilt top almost finished, the baby in question is due in two weeks, and ran out of yellow, agh!
–went to two quilt stores in search of said yellow, and actually found it, yay!
–watched a Rowan Atkinson clip show from 1981/86 and laughed a lot
Let’s see…
-Drank rootbeer while leaning back too far in my chair, spilled rootbeer all over my white shirt.
-Change into new white shirt. On the way to school, I spill ketchup on myself in the car :smack: and have to sit in class awkwardly with this gigantic ketchup stain on my shirt. Considering investing in a bib.
-Read various messageboards. Browsed a ‘hot chicks’ thread with pictures of female celebrities. Made a reply, posted “Alyssa Milano” then linked a picture of a naked midget taking a bath in a cooking pot. Received desired reaction by other posters
-Accidentally went into the women’s restroom during a class break. Hoped to escape without anyone seeing me, but bumped into a girl from my class as I dashed out. Gave me a funny look :dubious: . Class was awkward today.
-Went into men’s room, sat in stall while reading the school paper. A guy gets in the next stall and suddenly starts farting like a propeller airplane. I start to laugh uncontrollably. Back in class, I recognize the shoes of the guy that was in the stall. Did I mention class was awkward today?
I spent most of the morning on the phone with just doing business - mostly bookings.
Around lunchtime I let the plumbers in to replace the piping from the street main to the water meter.
That was really loud so instead of working in my studio, I went in the backyard for my practicing. The dogs joined me, and gallivanted around whilst I played. Today I mostly worked on Irish fiddle tunes, so the dogs did a jig. :dubious:
I went to the club around four and set up my my weekly sound gig. Ran sound from 6-9. All bluegrass, packed house, very cool.
Came home and worked in my studio doing some arranging.
Watched an episode of Angel, Season 4, which we just picked up yesterday.
Now I’m futzing on the SDMB.
I was chomping my way happily through an (organic) pear when I looked down and there, right before my eyes, a pink, wiggley little maggot popped his head out to day “Hello!”…
Thank GAWD Ididn’t look down and see HALF a maggot!!!
(Proves one thing tho’… that pear was DEFINITELY organic!! )
:: waving at Deva up in middle GA:: Howdy neighbor!
Sat in on a two hour meeting at a local high school to discuss one of their more problematic little angels.
Attended a Board of Directors meeting.
Ate some really good ham for lunch and had a brownie as a surprise treat.
Made a fabulous homemade chicken pot pie for dinner.
Had some wonderful muscadine wine.
A certain burly gentleman caller came over for dinner and stayed for “dessert”
Had a really really good night’s sleep and am all refreshed and ready for the day.
NinjaChick congrats on getting that job you really wanted.
Everybody else, congrats on the little daily successes that make us want to get up and try it all again the next day.
Are you sure it wasn’t screaming, “EGAD! It’s got Unkle Jake!”
Yesterday I got a letter from Prestigious U. telling me my application for grad school has been received. The letter was signed by a lady I know who works there, so here’s hoping.
At work, I approved a few engineering change requests and got Mozilla Firefox to work with our stupid “workplace data management solution” website. Tabbed browsing ahoy!
On the way back from work, I was going to get a key made for a friend of mine who’s crashing at my place until he finds an apartment. As we walked past the Whole Foods, I saw a girl who looked shockingly similar to a girl I had a crush on in high school. I stopped to look more closely, then kept walking, then stopped again and said, “Man, I’ve GOT to go back and see if it was her.” It was – and although we didn’t leave high school on the best terms, I was able to be an articulate and civil human being and she was remarkably pleasant. We’re going to grab lunch later this week and catch up on things. I’m hoping to introduce her to a guy in my office who’d be pretty good for her.
Then I got home and installed a new motherboard in an old computer and got it up and running inside an hour, and watched the Smallville premiere.
And then I went to bed with my fiancée - always the best moment of my day, with the possible exception of waking up next to her.
Lessee, what exciting things have I done today?
Woke up next to my lovely wife.
Hugged & kissed my kids and my lovely wife.
Made it to work, only 20 minutes late. Thank Og I’m salaried, and my boss comes in after me.
Paid bills for the month. Finally caught up on all of the bills after the Great Payment Screw-up of May & June.
Started making plans for our anniversary. Looking at B&B’s in Duluth.
Started looking at interesting BWCA trips for next year.
Oh, yeah. I worked for a while.
-Woke up and showered, etc
-Check my hair - Other than a few gray ones, hairline recession is within acceptible tolerances against my 1991 student ID I use as a baseline.
-Walked with my girlfriend to the NJ Path train.
-Girlfriend expressed relief that Chucky, a 1000 aligator that had escaped from an Alabama zoo during the hurricane was recovered unharmed (apparently he is very lazy and spoiled and didn’t venture more than 300 yards from his home).
-Kisses
-Sat at my desk
-Scanned my laptop for adware (there was a lot)
-Vanilla latte at Starbucks
-Sent some warm and fuzzy emails to my various project managers
-Read some reviews for Star Wars: Battlegrounds
-Posted some SDMB
-Made lunch plans with an old coworker
-Posted on SDMB…NOW
Confirmed that it is actually Star Wars: Battlefront. Battlegrounds was the old Star Wars version of Age of Empires.
-Posted on SDMB…NOW
Today I found out that I was not laid off during this latest round. Which is a bummer, because I was really hoping that’s the way it would go.
Today I:
-Finished a project for my first Really Big Client. Apparently they gave me a gushing review, and they’re a big company so I’m feeling inordinately proud of myself right now, and hoping that I’ll get more work from them.
-While I was wondering what I’d do to get money now that I’ve finished the project, someone called asking me to do something else, which will be more challenging because it’s not in English, so that’ll be fun, plus the project is on-going, which is even better.
-Worked on a personal project for a while.
-Spent some time watching my cat roll around on her head.
-Ate lunch with the husband who was home to make a personal call about another job.
-Even though it’s 3:30 p.m., someone mentioned wine, which sounds really good, so I think I’ll have some with a hefty dose of Straight Dope.
-After my wine I might try to go running, which will be interesting.
Congratulations, NinjaChick on your new job!
- Woke up feeling functional for the first time since Tuesday (Yay end of evil sensitive stomach issue!)
-Finished the two-month cutwork project known as a mola-style bulletin board. It’s purty. You’ll have pictures once it’s all laminated and protected.
-Worked a month ahead of one of my classes.
-
Wrecked my second pair of nylons this week.
-
Decided what city I want to teach in in two years’ time (Anchorage here I come!)
-
Am now at work doing reading for the class that does not usually meet so the professor can watch the Red Sox games.
I finally got to sleep around 4 last night, so I got up at 10 today.
I took a shower and the first batch of pills (Actos, Accupril, and Wellbutrin), then got the insulin out of the fridge.
I logged on and read some Fark and some threads here for a while.
My first injection was next. Glucose level 137- not bad, compared to where it used to be.
My friend Dave stopped by, he’s laid off for a while, and we talked, looked up record catfish catches on rod and reel, and the played some Unreal Tournament.
I then had a late lunch- my son picked up a hoagie at Tate’s, and I had a slice.
Came back to this computer and read more FARK and SDMB, where I am now.
I have some dishes to do and the room need to be vacuumed.
Also, I need to check the fantasy football site in case someone needs a trade expedited.
I think I beat everyone in the boring department.
- Slept on the train ride in
- Drank a Caribou Large Iced Skim Latte
- Dicked around at the computer waiting for the vendor to come in and do our database conversion
- Dicked around at the computer while the vendor did the conversion
- Tested said conversion
- Now dicking around (flipping between SDMB & Fark) waiting until I can leave in 30 minutes to GO ON VACATION FOR A WEEK!
Tomorrow: Drive
Saturday through Friday: lay around, read, swim, have sex
I ate evidence from a manslaughter trial. (It was sugarcubes that our blood expert was using to demonstrate some point or another. He also had a bottle of water that my boss drank after the trial. I only ate one so that I could say that I ate evidence from a manslaughter trial. Not many people can say that, eh?)
I put a battery in my daughter’s new Barbie Jeep.
I learned that one of my favorite prosecutors is quitting (she was very difficult to beat at trial, but she was very, very reasonable when it came to offering deals on cases), and I learned that one of my least favorite people in the world will be taking her place.
I fixed a toilet.
