What happened with this thread?

What is the deal with this bizarre thread that I ran across in the archives?

Everything seems to be going along fine, when all of a sudden there’s a banned user with his post edited off, the thread is closed, and a non-working link is given by UncleBeer. What the…?

BTW, I wasn’t sure where to post this, but “About this message board” didn’t seem to be appropriate. Perhaps I was wrong.

Lemme take a look. And for what it’s worth, the better way to get my attention is simply send an email.

Okay, here’s the poop as I remember it. Android209, the name on the last post, was not really the legitimate android209. The person making the final post in that thread was an impostor who used a flaw in the previous version of the vB software to seemingly duplicate current user names. If you check the dates of the last two posts in the thread, you’ll see they are nearly a nine months apart. This was part of the MO for that particular troll. He’d run around the board making obscene or obnoxious posts to long dead threads as an effort to create work for the mods and annoy the members. I followed this jerk around trying to clean up after him. That’s all that happened there. As for the link I posted, I dunno what’s up with it. I suspect it goes to a thread that has since been deleted. And I locked the thread since it was so old.

If you want more info on this particular troll, search in the BBQ Pit for a thread started by one Oat Willie, where he “confesses” and explains the rationale for his sustained trolling of this board. This guy was a colossal jackass.

Thanks a bunch, UncleBeer. I’m a newbie here, and I wasn’t sure that I even could e-mail moderators, let alone for trivial reasons.

Yep, we all keep our e-mail address availble for members. Mine is on this page, the MPSIMS forum summary page, http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4 fight under the SD banner.

Or you can just add rseaney@teamsigma.com to your address book.

I’m gonna lock this thread now. Its purpose has been served.
