What happens if Trump absconds to Russia?

I wonder whether he would expect the secret service to keep up his protection regime in RuZZia. Or in Saudi Arabia, for that matter. And for how long they would do it. Two weeks vacation? Sure, protection is kept up. Two years ignoring citacions, sub poenas etc? Probably less so.

It would be the height of ridiculousness if his SS detail accompanied his defection to Russia, and then expected to keep getting paid. OTOH, it wouldn’t surprise me.

Could make a funny movie though.

I can see it now. A detail of 5 SS agents surrounding Trump, with a detail of 12 KGB surrounding them.

If Trump absconds to Russia the Republican presidential candidates would be running into church to “praise the Lord”.

“We’ll get that extradition paperwork to you in about 2 weeks”.

It’s interesting that one of the relevant documents in the Trump indictment is a contingency plan for invading Iran. No doubt, the NSA and DoD have contingency plans for almost everything. So, what’s the contingency plan for Trump’s plane heading for Russian airspace?

I pity whomever ends up tasked with this duty. Trump claims to know everything but can’t stay on topic and has absolutely no problem straight up contradicting himself. I don’t even think truth drugs would work on him because he has his own version of the truth.

Trump could bring documents but if the Russians are any good at spycraft at all, they already have them.

Something about that is so very Russian.

I’m pretty sure in Putin’s Russia it is entirely possible to fall from the tenth story of a one story building. “Da comrade, he fell from tenth floor!” What? That’s impossible! “Yes, tenth floor, would you like to see?”

It’s an old one, I think they call it Fox 3.

Trump may not like the penalties they have for sexual relations (voluntary or otherwise) with women outside of one’s marriage. Even some members of the extended royal family have been imprisoned or even executed for breaking laws around sex in the kingdom, I don’t expect they’d be lenient with a foreigner in exile, even a former PotUS. It’s an absolute monarchy, Trump would only be welcome and safe as long as the king tolerated him, the moment he falls out of favor some truly bad things could occur. In such circumstances Trump might be lucky if all that happens is the Saudis putting him on an airplane bound for the US to score points with the Americans.

VERY good point.

No, they would be afraid that the Trumpists would be mad at them if they did that. 55% of Republicans would still support him as the next nominee. And they’d all blame it on Biden.

Putin has all the time in the world for losers if they can be used as assets, and Trump most definitely can.

The russian collusion hoax was exposed as exactly that. keep up. Trump did NOT collude with Russia and that has been proven beyond any doubt.

Well, that’s good enough for me.

This is your second thread hijack today after joining a mere 6 hours ago. It’s a very bad start. As I told you previously, I suspect you are a troll and you are eliminating doubt with every post. I’m putting your account in suspension for a day while we discuss your fate in the mod loop.

To others: Please do not respond to this post. Thank you.

Thank you.

If Trump is foolish enough to flee to Russia, he will be placed under house arrest to make sure he cannot exercise freedom of speech.

If the U.S. seriously wants him extradited, we can do a prisoner exchange. Those negotiations take many months, after which a deal is made.

Re Putin, there is no telling how long he will remain in power, so I base my speculation on Russian national interest.

Lotta overlap between this thread and another recent one:

I’m not suggesting that this thread is somehow inappropriate or duplicative. I am suggesting that folks interested in this topic may enjoy reading that other thread as well.

There are documents still missing: https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/02/politics/donald-trump-iran-subpoena/index.html Some of them may be in New Jersey. But is it really that big a deal? I’m not US intelligence analyst. But at one time Tom Nichols was. Emphasis added:

To understand the severity of the charges against Trump, consider a thought experiment: Imagine that Vladimir Putin is one day driven from the Kremlin, perhaps in a coup or in the face of a popular revolt. He jumps into his limousine and heads for self-imposed exile in a remote dacha. His trunk is full of secret documents that he decided belong to him, including details of the Russian nuclear deterrent and Russia’s military weaknesses.
Now imagine how valuable those boxes would be to any intelligence organization in the world. I spent the early years of my career analyzing Soviet and Russian documents as an academic Sovietologist, and I would have loved to see such materials. Small, seemingly trivial details—something as innocuous as a desk calendar or a notepad—might not mean much to a layperson, but to a professional, they could be pure gold. To get even a peek at such Russian materials would be an intelligence triumph.

He’s discussing documents, but I trust the Russians would bug Trump’s Dacha and send out a rotating set glad handlers to pal around with him. A careless and loose lipped man like Trump would be great for Putin, though not especially for Russia. There’s not much Trump can offer in the way of technology or sustainable business models.
