I think from what I’ve read the text-book narcissist has an extremely fragile ego though they hide that fact from others and possibly even themselves very well thanks to a lot of self-delusion. When confronted and having their ego actually wounded by someone they generally lash out with everything they have, but depending on the person and situation this could just mean being shouted down and having all the flaws and weaknesses thrown in the ego wounder’s face or it could actually lead to physical violence.
