One of the things I love about that crowd is how they keep saying “watch for the sign when it comes!” but few have foggiest notion of what they are supposed to be doing when the sign comes. The guys on 1/6 had some sort of half baked half arsed notion of taking over the Capitol, taking down a few “traitors” and making the Electoral Votes get thrown out, but barely could engage in common rioting and vandalism. You read their rants and it’s always somebody else behind the curtain making a move to set things right (I mean, arrest the Pope? WTF?)
Agreed. To quote Lloyd Weber’s Herod, “Is there something wrong? Jesus, what’s taking so long?” They note that the literal divine intervention on which they hung all their hopes for a better future is not happening in their lifetime, so they’ll go looking for evil to start the final fight already.
BTW the fences and checkpoints are still there and Capitol Police is asking for the NG to stick around another 2 months.
I just thought of a good April Fools’ Day prank for my trump-loving 18 year old son: I photoshop a fake CNN page with the headline something like “TRUMP MAKES TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO PRESIDENCY BACKED BY ARMY OF QANON BELIEVERS” and show it to him on my iPad
I’ve definitely seen an argument by Christians who say it can make them more susceptible–at least if you’re of the Evangelical variety. The idea is that they’re already used to the idea that someone will come back and make everything right. They’re used to the idea of a hidden evil conspiring against the truth. They’re used to the idea that things that aren’t how they “should be” must be the enemy trying to trick them.
Trump is just so nakedly evil that I think a lot of people find it incredulous that things could possibly be as they seem. Trump can’t be that bad and have gotten elected. The pandemic can’t be that bad and have been an accident. QAnon makes more sense to them than the reality we actually live in.
Many in churches still believe in the Just World Hypothesis, which makes the above quite appealing to them.
I see that as a benefit. There’s always the risk that the Q’s figure out they’re being trolled with 4/20 if one of them figures out the weed connection. But tell them it’s because of Hitler, and they’ll be all in!

He didn’t say for sure he’d come.
ESTRAGON
And if he doesn’t come?
VLADIMIR
We’ll come back tomorrow.
ESTRAGON
And then the day after tomorrow.
VLADIMIR
Possibly.
ESTRAGON
And so on.
VLADIMIR
The point is—
ESTRAGON
Until he comes.
VLADIMIR
You’re merciless.
ESTRAGON
We came here yesterday.
VLADIMIR
Ah no, there you’re mistaken.
I’m picturing the stage, bunch of fencing with different Trumpian/Q posters and banners, Stewart in a MAGA hat and Molle vest with tiki torch, McKellen in Aloha shirt and tactical pants carrying big-ass TRUMP flag.
VLADIMIR
He didn’t say for sure he’d come.
ESTRAGON
And if he doesn’t come?
VLADIMIR
We’ll come back tomorrow.
ESTRAGON
And then the day after tomorrow.
VLADIMIR
Well, screw that crap, I’m writing a note: “Hey, Godot ya dickweed! We got tired of waiting and headed down to the tavern. Better get there before we drink all the vodka.”
He says he doesn’t believe in the whole Q thing, though he does say they have “some good ideas”. It’s often hard to tell what he really believes and when he’s being deliberately outlandish just to troll me. As far as I can tell he believes:
The election was stolen from trump and there’s a ton of evidence that proves it if you stop being indoctrinated by liberal lies and just pay attention to the facts!
All the violence that happened at the Capitol riot was caused by undercover Antifa members. You can tell who’s Antifa in the videos because they wore their red MAGA caps backwards, or sideways or something. The others were true great American patriots who were peacefully protesting the coup that the evil liberals pulled off.
He was very optimistic that Giuliani, Powell, et al, could reverse the election results in court, but at a certain point he accepted the fact that as criminal as it is, the election results will not be overturned. I think when the inauguration came and went he got to the
Kubler-Ross acceptance stage. So he wasn’t anticipating anything happening on March 4, and not going forward on March 20 or any other made-up date.
