For the major holidays, candy companies big and small put out special confections available only during the time before the specific holiday. Often it’s the same candy that’s available all year but in seasonal colors or wrappings (e.g., pastel colored m&m’s for Easter or red and green Hershey’s Kisses for Christmas). However, there are candies that are only available during a certain holiday (e.g., candy corn for Halloween, candy canes for Christmas, and Peeps for Easter). Which brings me to the topic of this thread: what holiday has the best assortment of special candy that’s only available during that particular holiday? Is it Christmas? Easter? Halloween? Let’s discuss.
Easter I think. Wider variety of chocolate products in forms. Plus Peeps. I don’t know why I love Peeps so much but I do. They make Peeps for other holidays but I’m a fundamentalist, I eat only the yellow chicks at Easter.
I am totally fixated on Jube Jel Cherry Hearts, which are only available around Valentine’s Day.
Well, I hate peeps but love candy corn, so… I guess it’s Halloween for me. Although cream eggs are quite good… perhaps it’s a draw.
Now, if it’s dessert in general, then Thanksgiving’s pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and sweet potatoes are tops.
Well, Easter if I could still find dark chocolate coconut cream eggs. What happened to them, anyway? I bet you can still find them on the east coast, but I haven’t seen them in the West for years.
Easter. It’s all about the Cadbury Cream Eggs, baby. (Although I keep wondering when they’re going to make a peanut butter one-they’ve got ORANGE, for crying out loud, but no peanut butter)
Passover, Cokes with cane sugar.
In my mind, only 2 real choices, Easter and Halloween. Easter if you’re particularly fond of chocolate, but I’d go with Halloween for the sheer variety.
Any holiday that has the special Reese’s Peanut Butter theme-shapes. There’s never enough peanut butter in the normal cups, and too much chocolate. But the Easter eggs, and other holiday shapes, have a thin layer of chocolate and a thick layer of PB. Yum!

I just bought the peanut butter ones recently at Walgreen’s and I’m in Cincy. Go to Walgreen’s.
And my vote is Halloween because all I have to do is take my kid trick or treating and I get all the candy I can possibly consume.
My dad brought home some Brach’s Peacock Eggs (super awesomer jelly beans) from his last trip to Walgreens, and they have single-handedly secured Easter at the top of my list for holiday candy.
I also remember some sort of egg-shaped candy with a crispy shell over chocolate and a jelly center making it into my Easter basket for a few years, but I can’t for the life of me put a name to them. They were divine.
Easter. Even the godawful peeps can’t take away from chocolate bunnies and Cadbury eggs.
Christmas, when everything suddenly and magically involves peppermint.
I recently heard this from my bf. He claims the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is better in the eggs. Of course, now I probably won’t be able to get any to find out.
I saw them at a Walgreens in Chattanooga recently so it looks like you’re right.
O, ye of little faith. Have not the gospels told of blue-light specials and seasonal clearance aisles?
And lo, there was a selling and a gnashing of Peeps~
Easter. Candy-coated malted milk eggs & Butterfinger eggs are the best! Also, plentiful inexpensive varieties of jellybeans!
Easter candy is the best. Now I’m reminded to get to the store for the 50% off candy. Buy!
Even though it has been years since I indulged, I still love the Reece’s peanut butter eggs! Much better peanut butter to chocolate ratio than the cups, IMO.
