What’s the Gay-Straight Alliance? Is that just your word for everyone who isn’t a White Supremacist Homophobe? Or is it an actual recognised group?

Plenty of colleges and some high schools have a local GSA. It’s a way to raise awareness about alternative sexualities and provide a forum to defuse tensions and plan mass actions.
Like counter-demonstrating against assholes.
The GSA (which goes by the name SALE for Students Advocating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual Equality) is an organized, recognized group that seeks to inform the campus community about issues pertaining to sexuality. They sponsor activities about that topic.
Eternal, the OP was not intended to “slam” the Scots. Rather, I was using the stereotype of Scottish=bestiality to attempt to inject some humor to take the sting out of the hate.

MsRobyn, this question was posed by Friar Ted, but maybe you missed it: what makes you so sure these bozos were white supremacists? Oh, I’m sure from your OP that they’re behavior is pretty jerkish, but I didn’t see anything to suggest white supremacist, just anti-gay. The two don’t always go hand-in-hand.
And they probably could make the red sashes work, if they had any sense of style. 
I have the same question… if I’m against gay marriage, does that make me a white supremacist? 
No, that makes you a straight supremacist, but that’s not exactly news.

I never heard that one before, and I don’t believe it, just like I don’t believe arabs shag camels. Not a good idea to spread rumours or they will become widely rumoured.
The group self-identified as white, Christian supremacist. I based that on their own literature and press release.

Okay. I got it now. Just wanted a little clarification.
If the slogan on the flag was so chilling then why can’t you remember what it said? It wasn’t *Nemo Me Impune Lacessit * by chance was it? The flag sounds like an inverse of the Scottish Royal. They sound like a Scottish heritage supremacist group to me.
A clarification from one who helped with the counter-protest:
They were invited by the College Republicans for a clandestine “Sneakers for the Sanctity of Marriage Day”. Signs and sneakers were put up in the student union at nearly midnight on Wednesday for the official day on Thursday. The members of SALE spent half the night buying t-shirts and ironing on slogans for a silent counter-protest. The shirts read “No matter what I wear on my feet, I won’t let the government step on my rights.”
The white-supremacist group stood at the walkway to the student union and accosted people with their literature. Most were ignorant that anything was supposed to be going on and many, when they learned, went home and put on sandals. If someone refused, a snide comment was tossed at their backs. When questioned as to their reasoning for the lack of advertising, the Republicans cited Blue Jeans Day (a national, pre-advertised day sponsored by SALE) but gave no other reason.
And to continue the evidence of their lack of symbolism knowledge, many people from Philadelphia wondered if drug dealers had invaded the CUB (sneakers on a line is apparently a common way of marking dealing territory.
It always amazes me that these so-called “heritage groups” are always so convinced that homosexuality was imported from somewhere more corrupt. It’s Europeans and some parts of Eastern Africa blame the Arabs, the Arabs (and much of the rest of the world) blame the West. It’s the stupidest blame game I know of.

It is also most likely that most of the members of this group have no or very little Scottish ancestry. Groups like this think that attaching themselves to certain types cultural symbolism will help legitimize their movement.
But that’s no reason for the Scot bashing in the OP, its not Scotland’s fault that some ignorant pricks in the States are using the Scottish Royal flag and some bagpipes.
Actually, according to Irshad Manji, the Arabs blame the Jews. She said that when she did a segment of Queer Television about gay Muslims, the angry calls she received claimed that the gay people she’d profiled were Jews masquerading as Muslims. There aren’t enough :rolleyes: in the Universe.
Back on topic: What do you want to bet that if the Pubs are called on their secrecy about the “Sneakers” thing, they’ll use it as an opportunity for a “we’re so oppressed, our 1st-Amendment freedom to oppress and ostracize other people is always being taken away, this Liberal climate is hostile to us, we’re too scared to be open!” whine.

They’re just a crowd of very nasty idiots pathetcially trying to invent a history for themselves, picking somewhere that sounds, to them, conveniently far away, and therefore, perhaps, historical, mystical, strange…blah…not sure what they think, to be honest. Hell,did I suggest they “think”? A bash on the head for me, in that case.
If they “think” they’d be welcome here in Scotland, they are very much mistaken, I can tell you.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if PC-Nazis don’t like it.
My view on the mental disease is this:
It is not a dangerous mental disease like shizophrenia, but it should not be encouraged.
Marriage is encouraging the disease and marriage is a public institution.
I dont care what consenting adults do in private, their lust doesnt involve me. Offering marriage forces me to acknowledge them, which violates my rights.
Homosexuality is a mental disease, because:
If it is genetic, then it leads to the path of extinction.
If it is a ‘life’ style choice, then the person has some mental issues which therapy may or may not resolve.
All in all, I usually dont care at all, but all this pro-gay stuff is getting stupid.
